And how did this teammate get it? Are you forgetting that this is the guy that we're meant to hold accountable?

You're making ridiculous excuses now.

I doubt the players are the problem as much as their families and friends are. A player can follow protocols, but if a family member gets it...chances are the player will too.

The stricter protocols should help.

And yes, I know that some players have broken protocol and those players need to be dealt with as harshly as possible.

Families and friends need to know the rules, and should be held just as accountable.

My husband phoned me from the car one day, while sitting in the driveway, because a guy at work he had been in contact with was being tested for covid. He didn't want to enter the house out of precaution without telling us first. The girls went to their rooms and he came in through the back door with a mask on and quarantined himself to the spare room for 3 days while his co-worker got this results back (negative in the end).

Why can't NBA families be held to the same standard?

You do realize these players are next to each other during games, practice, during timeouts, and etc right? Do you even know what contact tracing is? If one player on a team gets it then more than half of the team will easily be considered close contacts if they're playing the game of basketball together. You could be doing everything right but simply being on the court, sharing a huddle with someone, or etc and you're considered a close contact.

You're too focused on the guy who was in close contact and not giving enough blame to the guy who might have covid

I think players follow protocol usually. Outside of Kyrie and Harden, everyone else seems to be doing what they're supposed to

My guess is that NBA players family members aren't going to work where they would have a better chance to know they were exposed to someone who had it. Most NBA players households don't need 2 incomes. They likely would pick it up out running errands, etc.

One of my closest friends has been ridiculously strict with the protocols because he has severe health issues. So, he rarely goes anywhere except to his dialysis treatment and he comes to my house once every couple of weeks or so just for a change of scenery. He has managed to catch it twice. They think it was from going to dialysis.

There's also apparently a more contagious strain that's out there. If that's the case, that is likely also part of the issue.

Not necessarily talking about you, but, imo, one of the biggest issues with this thing is people who want to start pointing fingers and assuming someone who gets it was being irresponsible.

Yep totally agree with this. I know a lot of people who had it and almost all of them were following protocols. Trust me if it was just about following protocols, the #'s in NY and NJ wouldn't be as high. Everyone is wearing a mask outside with the exception of homeless people. The only people I blame for being irresponsible is those who go out to clubs and bars wear in states where masks are not mandatory inside of an establishment

That's their own damn fault for not complying with covid regulations. Hold your players accountable for fucking around.

And stop blaming it on 'contact tracing'. If I know of someone who might have been infected, I stay the hell away from them.

How is it that in the biggest pandemic hotspot in the USA - California, not a single game of the Lakers, Clippers or Kings has been postponed yet? Hell even the Warriors would have been ok if not for the Suns breaking protocol.
This.

It's morons not paying attention.

I think NBA dropped the ball on this though with the spread. They basically had the Wizards spread the virus to other teams.

Let's look at how it went down.

  1. Wizards played Philly on Wednesday. 1 day later Steph Curry tested positive for covid.
  2. Tatum tested positive on Saturday after the Celtics played the Wizards on Friday night. He and Beal was hugging and etc after the game.
  3. following night the Wiz played Miami. Beal was in the arena and shooting around before being listed as out for health and safety protocols. Instead of postponing that game, they played it which led to 2 Heat players (assumption only) testing positive.
  4. The Wizards then played the Suns on Monday who days later had multiple players out due to health and safety protocols....shortly after this, we found out that 5 Wizards tested positive.
They should have postponed the Wizards/Heat and Wizards/Suns game and we would have had fewer games get postponed

He's actually right about that. You are correct if a guy gets the virus by not following protocol that's on him. But a teammate getting it from that teammate without knowing that teammate has it is just bad luck.

while I agree with you it's not a guy's fault if he gets it from a guy he didn't even know had it is this entirely true? Is their contact tracing different from NFL which I think follows CDC guidelines? Pretty sure within 6 feet of someone either for at least 15 min (or maybe 10).

First, guessing your husband is smarter than most 20-somethings. Second, is your husband chose to wait and quarantine. Did his employer force him to?

NBA has a CBA and not sure they can just make those rules. Would also be hard to monitor.

I get that. I'm not blaming the guy who accidentally got it from a teammate. I'm blaming it on the teammate who broke protocol and might have covid.

That's who the team needs to hold responsible.

If he gets caught hanging out at a club, fine the dude where it really hurts, not $50k. More like $5m

And if teams refuses to take action against its players, have the NBA fine the team. Whatever it costs to postpone the game times two.

and if he got it at a bar, he should be blamed...what if he got it from another player during a game?

The Spurs about to improve to 8-6 with an impressive win over the Blazers.....Lilliard with an bad shooting game.

The Spurs are a team that could be in the playoff hunt this season, unlike last year.

Enfield has done a good job at USC.

Yeah, I was a little concerned for the first few years. But he seems to be doing better at getting top talent. This years team looks like it's going to be his best one since he was hired.

You act like wearing masks and social distancing is 100% effective.

It isn’t.

These players are traveling every week and living life on the road. They are around new people every single day.

Even if they do everything right and take every precaution, they can still get sick.

Now, I am sure many have not taken every precaution, but not fair to assume everyone who has tested positive has gotten sick due to negligence on their part.

Better than the squad in 2017?
