Hield contract is under water and longer than kcp.

So you figure the Kings are just trying to get out of the contract? I looked at it and it's weird. $22 million+ this year, $20 million+ next year, then drops to just under $2 million'23-'24.

probably. He’s a very expensive backup when they have Haliburton ready fir a bigger role

That makes more sense then. I like KCP and Kuz, but that's not much for Hield unless they had another reason to move him. Which it sounds like they do.

He’s banking on himself right now cause he won’t get the full mle after last year

If he were betting on himself, he would opt out and sign somewhere on a 1 year deal.

He won’t have the role in LA to boost his value back up.

I think he is actually making the opposite of a bet on yourself move with this decision. It is more of a a let me take my money in case it dries up.

I was thinking the same about Derrick Jones in Portland

Isn’t gasol retiring?

they’re pretty capped out

he’s gonna get playing time by attrition at this rate

Especially wkth the Lakers focusing on smaller players

it’s interesting

He will get playing time in the regular season.

When the chips are down in the playoffs though?

AD will be playing 5 for 30 minutes while Trezl watches from the sideline.

Nothing hurts a players’ market value more than getting benched in the playoffs.

Yeah and it happened to him 2 seasons in a row. The game slows down, gets more physical in the playoffs and he disappears.

the problem is, it’s already happened twice
So what playoff team will pay him?

Kanter got the small mle because teams knew you couldn’t use him in the playoffs.

I’m surprised a freak athlete like harrell can’t switch better and at least survive on d.

or that the Lakers haven’t figured out how to use him like a smaller capela

He's kind of small for a "big". The way the game is played in the regular season lets him use his speed and quickness to his advantage. But in the playoffs, the game is more physical, so he struggles.

The problem with him isn't that he struggles a little in the playoffs. You'd expect that to a point. It's that he disappears to the point where he can't really be used at all.

That is what I am saying.

Nobody would pay him today.

But….

If he were to bet on himself, find a playoff team where he would have a more locked in role and he plays better,

Then he would be able to get paid again.

That is why I surprised he opted in. That is like the non-confident give up move.
