That's my biggest concern. The regular season is covered. Unless all 3 are out for significant time, it's hard to see the Lakers dropping out of the top 4 in playoff seeding.

But when it's an elimination game and Westbrook is wanting to play "hero ball"...that's where we'll see if Lebron can rein him in.

This season is going to be a challenge for Vogel's ability to build a defense. They had the #1 defense in the bubble season. Then they got a little worse defensively, lost AD and Lebron...and he still had the #1 defense.

This year, it's almost like the Lakers decided to give him a real challenge. lol

Yeah, Vogel's got guys that can play great defense in spurts and guys that he's going to have to "hide" defensively. Gonna be interesting to see what he comes up with. Part of why I'm glad they brought Dwight back is they now at least have rim protectors with him and AD. They didn't have that last year once AD was out.

I just don’t see how all 3 being on the court is that floor raising in crunch time of the playoffs when Russ is only a threat to the backboard from behind the arc

True story. When I was in 4th grade I got suspended 3 days for doing the croch chop (can’t remember why I did it) to a girl. Me being young, I didn’t know what it really ment at the time. When they asked what it ment, I said “ugh, suck it”

I still remember the face the principal made. Lol

you are not alone in that.

so many similar stories on the fb wrestling groups

the year we won it people were saying we weren't going to be good defensively.
True.

But, you said it yourself...

The Lakers overcorrected to the extreme by signing mostly offensive minded guys because of what happened whenever LeBron was off the floor.

So, unless you think you're getting 2007 Ariza, Howard is the only defender you brought in to replace Caruso, Schroeder, KCP.

That's gonna be a problem unless THT uses those long ass arms and becomes 1st team all defense.

Westbrook is a game defender. But, someone else needs to take a step.

That's where they'll need whoever else in on the floor to hit from the perimeter. If they're closing with, for example, Lebron, Westbrook, AD, Melo and Ellington. They'll need Melo and Ellington hitting shots. Also, Lebron and AD can both hit from the perimeter. Neither are great, but a team can't leave them alone out there.

The only player they wouldn't have to defend on the perimeter would be Westbrook. But with the other 4 having to be covered on the perimeter, I like Westbrooks chances. Westbrook and AD can play some pick and roll and drive and dish as well.

It would probably mean Lebron wouldn't be driving to the hoop as much, but he's 37, so that may not be the worst thing.

It's going to be interesting because Lebron and Westbrook will have the biggest change to their normal roles. We'll see how well each can adjust.

It is more than an adjustment.

The optimal role for both is creating with the ball in their hands. Neither is great off the ball.

Yeah, LeBron probably better than Russ off ball, but he is better on ball too.

So either way, 1 of these guys is being used at less than his best.

I think you guys are going to miss KCP and the Bald Mamba more than you think.

You have to have at least one lockdown perimeter defender when you face Luka, Dame, Book, JA, Mitchell, Curry 3-4 times per Season.

Those guys are going to COOK the Lakers from the outside.

But, you can mostly do the same to them in the paint.

They'll be looking to play similarly to what they did in the bubble.

They basically shot about league average from 3 (but were pretty inconsistent) and dominated the paint.

It looks like they want to do the same, but understand that they're going to need to be more consistent from 3 (and a little better than league average), hence the shooters they've signed.

Me too.

But, he won't.

I honestly believe he will buy in.

Seriously, the guy was in no man's land in Washington.

They couldn't get better because his salary was a albatross and they weren't good enough to be much more than cannon fodder in a 1st round knockout.

Now, not only does he have a legit chance to compete for a championship. But, he gets to do it at home.

He's not going to be the reason things go wrong. And by go wrong, I mean they don't win it all.

The Lakers are obviously Championship or Bust. If they lose, it will be because they didn't shoot well enough to overcome their lack of defense.

We can't blame Russ for that because they knew that wasn't in his wheel house when they traded for him.
