Someone needs to take his damn phone away. lol
Devil's advocate:

The guy is uber-accomplished.

Maybe he needs to manufacture these types of narratives for extra motivation.

I mean, this is like his 30th season in the league... Lol

I would get it if it was a top 5 or top 10 list and they left him out. It said he was the only other player they considered for a vote so they think he is at least a top 3 player.

He gets triggered so easily. I mean wasn't he just named (one of) the best player on NBA 2K again?

For a guy that is about to turn 37 and has been in the league for coming up to 19 years now, he really needs to dial it down. So what if people don't think you're the best player in the league any more? Father time is still undefeated.

Now we get a year of him saying #washedking

Going to be a long year
Here's the thing:

He fucking made it up.

Nobody called him that.

They were talking about it last week on ESPN.

Did someone go to the net and scrub all the mentions that weren't in response to his assertion?

Because, they couldn't find any.

He loves motivation, some people thrive off it. Like Mecca said in his 40th in the league, not much can motivate a player at this point.

Yup.

Jordan and Shaq used to flat out LIE about things that guys allegedly did or say.

I can't believe Shaq was lying about David Robinson for 2 decades...lol

Winning another championship should be motivation. Worked pretty well for Kobe and MJ. Basketball is a team sport.

lol

They all do that shit.

I forget who it was, some role player I think...MJ made up a whole story about how the guy had said something disrespectful to him after the last time their teams played and then dropped 50 on him.

I haven't read it yet, but I came across an article the other day that seemed to be questioning whether Reuben Patterson ever actually called himself "The Kobe Stopper".

Kemp started it.

Retired NBA player Ruben Patterson, who has recently joined the NBRPA, spoke with Legends of Basketball, and recalled his memories of Kobe Bryant. In particular, he revealed how the “Kobe Stopper” name was created and how it stick to him.

“Shawn Kemp started that nickname when we played the Lakers,” Patterson said, who played with Kemp on the Portland TrailBlazers team. “I was soaking my Achilles in some ice as a cameraman was filming me and Shawn just made it up on the spot.”

@trojanfan12

I'm fucking dead....lol

Mr. Cat: One of the funniest, random things that I just remember from watching the NBA as a kid - Ruben Patterson claiming that he was the Kobe stopper, that was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I can actually visualize it, NBA on NBC, they're coming in, Ruben Patterson's got his feet in an ice bucket, and everyone in the Portland Trail Blazers locker room is like, "Kobe Stopper, Kobe Stopper." Were you guys like, "Is this guy fucking for real?"

Robert Horry: You know, the crazy part about that, Ruben, you used to play for us. You used to try and guard Kobe in practice. You couldn't guard him in practice and when he wasn't going hard! You think you could guard him in a game, are you serious right now? Ruben had a big ego and when Ruben came in as a rookie, he thought he should have been starting.

Robert Horry: Rookies are always supposed to do stuff like bring your donuts, bring your coffee, or bring your paper, you know. People are probably like, "What's the paper?" But he;'s supposed to do these things. So, Ruben had that ego and that attitude, like, "Yo, I'm from Cincinnati, I'm this Bearcat, I can do this." So, he never did what he was supposed to do as a rookie.

Robert Horry: One night in Sacramento, we said, "OK, we're going to show you how rookies get treated." We got a bunch of athletic tape, taped him up, put him on a luggage cart, put him on a elevator, and hit all the buttons. So, we just left him there.

Mr. Cat: (laughing) I'm happy I asked about that.

Robert Horry: So, that is the Ruben Stopper story. You don't respect us vets, we got something for you. And I think the funniest part is that I felt bad, this old lady, she was about to get on the elevator, and she saw him all tied up. She was like, "Ooohh," and scared her. And we were like, "We're sorry, ma'am, it's a joke." And she got all scared, so that's one night in Sacramento.

Mr. Cat: Yeah, and that guy called himself "The Kobe Stopper."

Yeah, that poor guy.

I think he said the kid patted his back and said good game on the way off the court.

Next game, he destroyed Labradford.

Fella never said shit to Mike...lol
