i'd argue that MWC and WCC are on the same tier and a move to the MWC wouldn't have been a step up.

Gonzaga/BYU/St. Mary's are probably better than the three best programs in the MWC.

tbh, Gonzaga just doesn't have any options to move to a better conference. Their best option would be some type of merger between the WCC/MWC, and that is never going to happen because MWC plays football.

I don't know how much more you can expect of them in a season. They played the late game that would have been a lot more emotionally draining than the early snoozer that Baylor played (good on Baylor for making it that way, but it would definitely have an impact on play two days later) and then got punched in the mouth quickly (haven't looked back to be sure, but I think Baylor was like 5 of 5 from 3, on top of playing suffocating D in the first 5 to 8 minutes of the game) by a great team. Looking at that game as a referendum on Gonzaga as an over-rated team, or whatever, is pretty ridiculous.

EDIT: Forgot to add that they also had Baylor on the RS schedule, as previously mentioned... their other missed games look like stiffs.

Gonzaga had 7 top 50 wins on Selection Sunday. Not sure where this rhetoric comes from that Gonzaga needs to do something different. They lost to a great team last night. It happens.

The MWC wanted their men’s basketball program, not Gonzaga. It is the exact same as the Pac 12 has all the BS excuses of not wanting Boise State except used Boise State’s wrestling team. Gonzaga is in a hard spot because there is only two conferences that wouldn’t cripple their athletic department and that is the Pac 12 and Big 12 and they will never get those invites.

I think they are a very good team.

But looking at their schedule a month ago, I had to laugh. If they really want to stay in that conference, they need to heavy load their OOC games to make up for it. I know they had Baylor scheduled, but they need to play like 3-4 Big12 teams, 3-4 B1G teams, and a few other big programs.

The problem with that is, they do load up on their OOC schedules. But during their conference schedule, power conference teams don’t have openings. The entire Pac 12’s football season is based off of what Notre Dame does with their schedule but Notre Dame is an independent though they have the ACC tie in. Gonzaga isn’t an independent so the WCC and the other power conferences all have to work together. Which isn’t feasible.

It’s not a huge upgrade. However, it’s simply false to spread the narrative that the MWC doesn’t want Gonzaga. They tried to make that move but Gonzaga turned them down and got the contract with the WCC reworked in their favor to stay

In this article their AD is quoted saying the MWC pursued them but they chose to remain in the WCC. The WCC reworked their contract to give an uneven amount of the revenue to Gonzaga in order to get them to stay.
