Remember when Kevin Ollie was a thing?

Juwan, Snyder, Sam......yeah.

I don't care what anyone says, I still think you ask Krzyzewski.

Also, you were right about why the Lakers didn't fire Vogel.

Shelbourne and Woj said they considered it early in the Season and several times towards the end.

But, J Kidd was gone and there wasn't anyone better that was available and would have made a difference.

Generally speaking, with few exceptions, I don't believe in firing a coach unless you have someone that you believe is better either ready to go, or you have someone in mind and have a strong chance to hire them.

The Lakers have apparently said they will conduct an extensive search. To me, that says they don't have a target that they feel strongly they can get.

To be fair, if they don't have someone in mind that they feel strongly that they can get, I'm glad they are saying it will be an extensive search. Trying to hire someone too quickly is how you end up hiring Mike D'Antoni when you could have had Phil. lol

Also, agree that you have to at least call Kryzewski. If for no other reason than due diligence. Especially since he apparently seriously considered it when the Lakers wanted him back when Kobe was still playing.

I know the Hield trade was all but done when they ended up going with the Westbrook deal.

I know that DeRozan was discussed. I don't know how close it was to ever actually being done. DeRozan would fit better with Lebron than Westbrook. But the problem there is that he still wouldn't have provided what the Lakers needed as far as 3 point shooting. Even with him balling out this year, he only hit 35% from 3. He's 29% from 3 for his career.
Plus, sign and trade.

You would have been hard capped.

Yep.

Sam is gonna Ty Lue his ass....lol
Maybe this is Doc's strategy: he will keep taking these jobs based on his name recognition, so he can suggest his proteges (who also have name recognition because they too are former players) when he leaves?

For all the power he demands (and gets), and for supposedly being a basketball "savant", Lebron is really terrible at judging talent.

Anyone with some basketball knowledge knew that Westbrook was a bad fit for the Lakers.
Totally agree.

But, how many elite players have actually been successful talent evaluators?

Jerry West, yes.

Larry Bird, to a lesser extent.

Can you think of anyone else?

Isiah Thomas, Magic, Jordan all tuuuuuuuuuurible... Lol

Yeah, but prior to this year, it had always worked. As was mentioned the other day, Lebron the GM had one thing going for him that no other GM did...he had Lebron the player.

The problem this year was that Lebron the player is 37 years old and can't carry a team all season anymore.

It's more about being a narcissist IMO. He thought he could will it into working.

Just saw that Embiid is the first international player to win the scoring title in NBA history. Probably won’t be the last.

Also, he’s the first guy to average 30 and 11 since Karl Malone in 1990.

But he doesn’t have enough VORP

Top 3 MVP contenders and last 4 MVPs (counting this year) are international players.

And some people honestly think the 90s was tougher competition than current NBA?

Please.

Before the globalization of the NBA, those guys would have been doing something else.

Jokic had 2000+ points, 1000+ rebounds, 500+ assists (first player ever from anywhere to do that) AND enough VORP :noidea:
