Tonight's Rangers game is on MLB Network tonight. It's a late start though, 9:30pm.

Teams trying to lose from the onset is really a bad problem. Some FAs should have been signed by now.

I get Rangers not going on a spending frenzy but sitting your best players before the break IMO is unethical.

But of course I would like to move Choo. So I guess there is some gray area. Probably going to be some changes with new CBA

Astros ruined it.

They shamelessly tanked hardcore for several years and rebuilt through the draft.

Other teams saw it work for the astros and pay off with a World Series. Now everyone is trying to follow the Houston blueprint.

It also sucks because we used to have a lot of resources and scouting in the Latin America’s to get some cheap good players, but the MLB stepped in and regulated everything on that front.

Other issue is revenue sharing .... a team can purposefully put a bad team on the field and the league still pays them. Need that tank tax

I have never liked revenue sharing in baseball or in most others situations as well. If a team can't cut it then they need new ownership and possibly a new city to play in. Contraction is always an option too.

Tanking in baseball is hardly an exact science. Teams trying to do so, do so at their own peril. They had better have a lot of top notch talent evaluators, scouts and developmental people in their organization as well as some luck.

Inside one of Chris Wooward's biggest lineup decisions as Rangers manager, and what it has to do with Adrian Beltre

With most of his expected regulars in the lineup for a night game against Arizona and Zack Greinke Tuesday, Mazara was in the No. 4 spot, traditionally reserved for the team's biggest run-producer, and Joey Gallo was in the No. 5 spot.

"If I had to do it now, that's probably how I would go," Woodward said. "It's a good discussion. I've talked with our hitting guys. I've talked to our analytics guys and I have my own opinions. It's a good debate."

It is perhaps the biggest single decision for Woodward on putting together a lineup. Each of the first three hitters in Tuesday's lineup - Shin-Soo Choo, Rougned Odor and Elvis Andrus - led the Rangers in starts at their respective batting order spots in 2017.

But with Beltre now retired, who would move into the No. 4 spot would be key. And it may come down to this: Who is better at reaching base when leading off an inning?

According to Beyond the Boxscore, the No. 4 spot in the order actually leads off an inning 24 percent of the time, the second highest percentage in a batting order.

A year ago, Mazara had a .328 OBP in 125 plate appearances when leading off an inning while Gallo had a .294 OBP for 119 plate appearances. Putting Mazara fourth with Gallo fifth could lead to more opportunities for Gallo's power to play.

Gallo walked in the 5th to become our first baserunner of the game against Greinke. Later in the inning Guzman got a hit and the game was called shortly after that.

Greinke came very close to a ST no hitter.

One of the shortcomings of the present regime is that they have mostly ignored the corner positions in the draft.

The short- and long-term outlooks of the Rangers' third base position now that Adrian Beltre isn't around

I think they state it well enough, easy enough to find a SS with pop that outgrows his position

Same thing with going heavy at CF over COF,

but in the end you need to take/sign the better player, don't take the lesser player just bc he's a SS or CF and those are "harder to find" or "have positional flexibility"

It seems like their grading system is skewed toward the middle. It has been a long time since we developed someone like Sierra, Juando, Palmer, Blalock, Teixeira, Hargrove, O'Brien, or Davis types.
