Rapp wasn't in the 3rd SJ, but I get your point.

You liked the first 2 guys in the 3rd.

I felt they didn't need to give up (2) 3rd rounders to draft a 3rd string RB who will sit behind Gurley and Brown. And what about Kelly? They just give up on him already?

Those other (2) 3rd's could've been starters or backups at other positions.

I just know we got 3 bad ass football players and an OT that’s going to sit and learn. 4 pretty good players in 3 rounds. McVay obviously likes Henderson as a weapon. I can see why. We got 2 pretty bad ass DBs

I don't get the Henderson pick

You give up (2) 3rd round picks who could be starters/backups for a 3rd string RB?

Did they seriously need him that bad that they couldn't wait 9 picks to draft any other RB to be the 3rd string guy?

And, have they seriously given up on Kelly already?

I'm more worried as to what that says about Gurley. Is he damaged goods now?

McVay stated in the post-draft session that they were indeed looking for SPECIFIC guys with the Rams fit skill sets with an eye on the future while supporting the team right away. It is probably the reason they appeared to pass-up so many good players. He also stated this morning that to not to read too much into the Henderson selection and what that means about Gurley's knee health.

I am not sure I agree on the last point. I think Gurley's knee is on the downside and he is not going to be able to carry the workload he once did. We will see less and less of TG and I think his career is going to be cut short because the knee is arthritic and will not improve under the rigors of the NFL.

My thoughts and observations on the first three rounds:

1) As it turned out, the Rams believed in their OL and DL players, so they passed on those positions and took the value, (as SJ predicted many posts ago), on the depth in the secondary in this draft class. Also, I remember a few drafts ago that our OL coach said not to draft anyone for that position because he wanted to work with what we had to develop consistency and form continuity for the O-lineman. It's apparent that the staff believes Noteboom and Allen's familiarity with the playbook and their fellow linemates superceded any early need for depth reinforcements.

2) Nailed the David Long pick in my mock!

3) Loved the RB pick! Henderson was definitely someone we targeted and Snead was smart enough not to wait for him to fall because Montgomery and Singletary were chosen right after he was. Had to trade up and it was prescient on Snead's part! Also, this does signal that the RB position will be a rotational one no matter what McVay says. He is just being as nice as possible with his public comments regarding Gurley and rightfully so. I like SJ's Sproles comparison, but I would go just a bit further and project a Kamara comp.

4) Everybody we drafted was on the visit list (per Walter Football). I'm an extreme believer in having a "get to know you session" with anyone you potentially intend to draft!

5) Don't ever take anyone with any kind of red flag! (See KC and Kareem Hunt & Tyreke Hill) It will come back and bite you sooner or later.

6) As someone already posted, we are saving a ton of money with these trade downs and setting up Goff's trust fund!

Not a bad pick. We give up 2 - 5th rounders? Who did we trade with?
