Bill Belichick explains sneakily strategic philosophy on sacks

Pretty good article relating to QB Pressures by DL versus just sacks and how some Patriots Players numbers in sacks rise after leaving. just a very small sample.

a quote from that article below

“I think if you look at the overall passing game, the statistic that stands out the most in terms of correlation is pressure. So pressure on the quarterback leads to more bad plays than sacks do, in terms of turnovers unless you have strip sacks, obviously. That’s the No. 1. After that, pressures cause bad throws and potentially turnovers.”
Is Bill being serious?

No tackle, which is what a sack is, ever relates to a turnover. Or a scoring play. No sack leads to a first down. Pressures occur on scoring plays, first downs, etc.

A pressure is less than a sack. Nobody attempts to not tackle a QB when pursuing him.

Cards got him.

Well.

Fuck.

He woulda filled a big need.

Eagles free-agent LB Jordan Hicks agrees to 4-year, $36M deal with Cardinals

The Jordan Hicks era in Philadelphia is over. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting that the Cardinals have agreed to four-year deal with Hicks.

According to Rapoport, the four-year deal is worth $36 million total, with $20 million guaranteed. Hicks also got a $12 million signing bonus.

BB_72; He would have been worth that type of money. imo. If shit went wrong BQ could have been done after year 2 with little dead money coming in year 3.

This deal seems normal to me.

Collins deal in Washington looked insane, but after three seasons it's only 6 mil in dead money. I think almost all of these bug money deals are mostly pretend. Shit, Flowers has about a .5% chance of finishing out his here. 24 mill of cap hit isn't going to happen.

Don't understand why guys sign those. Seems pointless.

you can relax now, TrustMe.
I have.

It's FA and the majority of the first wave of players signed are all overpaid to whatever degree one thinks.

I didn’t mean that to come off as upset. I was just pointing out that I wasn’t calling the Lions idiots.

I understand the move, but, IMO, teams with monster contracts at QB have to be selective and fill needs at spots that are tougher to fill thru the draft. To me — it is easier to find a suitable nickel corner, than it is to find an edge corner in the draft.

That is all I meant. Also, I appreciate all the articles and links to players you have posted!

I interpreted it as being, "if you don't hit/sack a QB but you apply enough pressure that will create miscue's ( bad reads/throws that are uncatchable, etc.), by the QB or in some other facet which lead to a neutral or negative play but takes a down away. It also relies heavily on DL pressure in concert with solid CB coverage.

I wouldn't be opposed to our next GM being from the Belichick tree as long as whoever it is paid attention while he was there.

We dont have the depth yet to take that approach. We may after this year. And the Pats made a living out of bringing in guys in FA and waivers to fill holes. They have not drafted well historically. Lions need to weed out the guys still who have not bought in to the system and fill on the back end with team players.

I was hoping for Steven Nelson. Could have gotten him for the same money. Still, the draft is deep at CB so there will be more opportunities then at slot CB.

Not in this market when fucking S are getting paid 14M APY. imo.

ooops. by me. again.

Steven Nelson

Current Contract

Steven Nelson signed a 3 year, $25,500,000 contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, including an average annual salary of $8,500,000. In 2019, Nelson will earn, while carrying a cap hit of .

There's still enough money to make another significant signing(s) in the 13-14M in total range

Probably a bit more than that they've been back loading these contracts(BQs best Mayhew impersonation)

Current space with the top 51 30.3 million(this includes James, Flowers, Coleman, and Amendola)
Rookies 8.9 million minus the 9 players removed from the top 51 est. 4.8 million = est. 4.1 million for the rookies
Aboushi 2 million and Zenner uknown but i'll just estimate it at 2.9 million(better not be higher than that :mad2:)
Should have an estimated 21.3 million to spend

So a slightly above average nickel gets a contract that makes him the highest paid nickel in the league and on top of that if he plays bad he can't be cut without a ton of dead money until the final year of the contract.

He is guaranteed to be cut after 2 years. His cap hit will be 11.5 with 5 in dead money.

I'd like to see them look into Oline or Safety

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports free agent S Eric Berry was told he can play through his ankle injury.

Berry was expected to need surgery after being limited to two games by an ankle/heel injury last season, but noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson told him he should be able to play through the injury. Of course, that was not the case last year, when Berry was day-to-day seemingly all season, and injury concerns will be the one big barrier the 30-year-old faces as he looks for a new deal. When all is said and done, Berry might have to settle for a prove-it deal despite his decorated past.
