Does it matter when it comes to our team? Not really, since we each spent half (or nearly half) a decade with title level teams. But when comparing 2 players, yeah, thinking what they do on different kinds of teams matters.

I mean, if asked to compare 2 other players from bad teams I could offer an opinion.

The 6th seeded Nets were never in contention for a top 2 or 3 seed last year so I know that's a lie. Probably said it for the West but the East was never this competitive in a while.

One thing that has to be considered is that they are both in very different situations.

Barring some huge free agent signing that seems pretty unlikely, the Cavs are years away from even being a playoff contender, let alone a title contender.

Unless Kevin Love is content to spend the rest of his career babysitting kids and possibly never seeing the playoffs again, he has no choice but to play as well as possible.

Given his age and his contract, it's likely that his only chance of ever seeing the playoffs again, is to play well enough that a playoff contending team is willing to take on his contract.

Because both Steph and Klay are expected back next year, Draymond can effectively "take this season off" and just prepare for next season when the Warriors are likely to be contenders again.

I guess what I'm saying is that while Draymond's lack of production could be explained by a decline...it's also possible that he's not "all in" on this season.

Ftr, if that's the case, I disagree with it. But it also seems like a "Draymond thing to do".

Warriors definitely took the L not retaining him. Heat with the savvy move to sign him prior to the end of last season to keep him for this year.

He's aiding in the tank. Probably the biggest contribution of his career to be honest. Could help sustain this organization way past his playing days.

Calm down, I just had the impression that there's not usually a lot of separation, especially before the ASB. And I was right regarding the West. Sheesh.

But I am quite sure he is better than what we are seeing now. And not just because he is on a bad team.

Yeah, I tend to agree with that. There's decline, but I don't think it's as much of one as it looks like right now.

One thing's for sure...we'll find out next year.

Yep. He may well have declined some since 2016. But, he also is only 29. So it seems a little early for a decline of any real significance, even with the mileage he's picked up over the past 5 years or so. I think it's certainly possible that he's had an early decline, but I think that what you suggest is probably more likely.

Draymond is more of a Swiss Army Knife type player. Because of that, keeping the ball moving and getting it to the right guy is a big part of what he does. His assists are going to suffer because he's not passing to Steph, Klay and KD anymore.

Also, his points per game would also suffer because he's never been a player known for his scoring and being able to create his own shot. He gets most of his points because teams couldn't leave Klay, Steph or KD to double him. It's more likely that a team would leave him to double them.

I think the best way to describe Draymond is an all-star level role player. When he's at his peak, he's incredibly valuable to those AROUND him. He's not the central cog, but he's a necessity to team success.

People make it out like it's a bad thing that he has a ceiling. Most players do. It's the ones who go outside of their lanes to try to do too much that end up faltering. Now I will say that next year he needs to come correct. He'll need to be in impeccable shape and return back to close to his DPOY form. 2017-2019, he slacked because KD was just a cheat code. He needs to get back to being 2015-2016 Draymond for this team to be successful.
