So... the Lakers are off to a great start... hopes are high and everyone should be feeling good... and...

LeBron and L.A. are b!tching about the officiating.

Lakers plan to contact league about the way LeBron James is being officiated, and they have a point

Because the officiating was terrible in the Memphis game. For both teams.

The game had to be stopped on two occasions last night because Lebron was bleeding on trips to the basket and no foul was called. Since when is causing an opponent to bleed not considered a foul?

Additionally, from the link you just posted:

"The problem is: LeBron is a giant. When he gets hit, you don't notice it as much. It's like a mosquito hitting a brick wall. Officials react to what LOOKS like major contact, but LeBron doesn't go completely out of his way to dramatize contact the way a lot of players -- *cough* James Harden -- do every time someone breathes on them.

When a guy like Lou Williams (who is also getting to the line a greater percentage of his shots than LeBron is) gets hit, you see it. Shaquille O'Neal used to have this same gripe. He was so gigantic that guys would be hitting him like a punching bag and would just bounce right off him. Shaq got to the line a lot. He would tell you he should've gotten there a whole lot more.

That's what LeBron and the Lakers are saying. He gets to the line an adequate amount of time, but he should be getting there a lot more. James Harden, for instance, how been to the line 231 times this season, per NBA.com. LeBron has been there 89 times. "

On the subject of fouls and getting calls, everyone pales in comparison to Harden. Using him as a basis of comparison amounts to a loaded argument.

LeBron drives like a football running back hitting the hole and gives as good as he gets going to the basket. It's his freakish size that allows him to play this way... but folks would have us believe his size is actually a weakness because he just can't get calls. Boo Hoo.

So you're acknowledging he's not getting calls because of his size and strength.

Cool, you agree with the Lakers then.

So what is it that you're trying to say? He's not getting the calls because of his size? Or he shouldn't be complaining because he doesn't flop like a bitch like Harden does every time he goes to the basket?

Which brings me to my previous question, when is causing an opponent to bleed not considered a foul?

Again, using Harden as a point of comparison is weak-@ss. Literally everyone in the NBA can b!tch and say, "why don't I just flop more like Harden does?"

Is this a massive injustice toward James...

... or does somebody on Memphis need to trim their nails?

Must be a massive injustice against James. Contact the league office.

Because a call or two never gets missed against anyone else in the league, ever.

Meh, I don't care tbh.

The Lakers are currently the best team in the league.

The really stupid thing is when people say he wouldn’t have been able to handle the more physical 90s.

BS.

Yeah... that's crazy.

I'm actually not familiar with that line of haterade, is that an argument made against LeBron from earlier in his career? Wouldn't have made much sense back then, either.

Hear it pretty often in the GOAT debates.

People think he is soft and couldn’t withstand physical play.

He is a freight train. As I have always said, more physical play only helps players built like LeBron and Shaq. Because they can take the contact and still finish.

Yeah, that's crazy talk. Folks will say dang near anything to "win" a debate.

I'd still pick MJ as goat... but not because of crazy made up reasons.

Lebron also took 9 threes last night. Missed calls happens as you said. Going as far as sending a tape to the league office because the refs had a bad game is hilarious. This is the same team that had a player get 20 ft attempts in a quarter this year

They beat the Kings by 2 on LeBron ft's when the league later admitted he should have been charged for an offensive foul instead. There's also the game vs Dallas when Dwight held a defender to help them hit a game tying 3 at the buzzer, and they won that in OT.

Why is this a surprise to anyone?

Us, Cavs fans, know this more than anyone and Heat fans as well. We have been saying this for years and we would get ripped bc we were bitching about fouls. When in reality, Lebron doesn't get the calls most players get for the simple fact he is a freak of nature 260 pound bowling bowl and most hits that send a player to the floor don't affect him...but they are still fouls.

No surprise, not sure why this is a surprise to anyone.

I can't think of much that's more hilarious than a Celtics fan trying to call out fans of another team for complaining about the refs.

Guys like Lebron and Shaq are virtually impossible to officiate fairly.

If the refs call every foul, guys like that would be averaging 30+ free throws per game.

On the other hand, a foul is a foul, no matter who it is that got fouled.

Then again, if other players can't get away with some stuff...players like that would average 50 points per game because they would literally be impossible to guard.

Some teams seem to take an "they can't call everything" approach. Which can be understandably frustrating for guys like Lebron and Shaq.

The key is to find a "happy medium" which some crews do a better job of than others.

You're suggesting that contact that "doesn't affect" a player should be called a foul... why?

As a general rule, I don't think your point-of-view is correct. Contact that "doesn't affect" another player usually isn't called a foul... nor should it be called a foul in most instances.

Define not effecting the player. A guy is fouled, but is strong enough to complete the play and scores. It didn't effect him scoring, but he gets a free throw anyway.

Volume doesn't mean anything. Some teams foul constantly (like the game you mentioned; they simply couldn't handle AD and tried to get physical). If guys are getting hit and bleeding without a call, the refs suck and SHOULD be called out.

Everyone admits that players get away with contact against bigger players that would be called against smaller players. That is room for improvement with the refs and notifying the league office isn't a bad thing. Consistency should be the aim.

...unless that fouled player is on your team, of course. A foul is a foul; whether or not it is called should not be dependent on the outcome of the play (or injury caused, in more severe cases).
