Not sure I'd call it wrong, but what would be the reason to do this? seriously, are you lobbying for this if Detroit had the highest odds to win?And in those seasons all the teams played the same number of games. If you can make it work with 22 teams you can make it work with 30. Some teams just playing for different goals.
And what would be wrong with giving 8 teams and equal shot in the lottery as a consolation if they don't get to play? It's not even that huge a change with how it's been reworked. Bottom 8 odds range from 6% to 14% with the bottom 3 having the same odds. If you average the odds out it come to 10.9%, actually barely helps the Piston s who have a 10.5% shot at 5th worst.
