I don't understand NFL contracts.

Gurley released by the Rams. 4 years left, $57Mill on his contract.
Rams can just say "nope!"?

Well, if a player can just renege on their contract and hold out, then why not?

I'd prefer neither be allowed.

That's really where the risk is is in the coaching staffs.

Most of the players are presumably in excellent health - though we obviously don't know what type of underlying medical conditions some may have.

But you get guys like Carroll and Belichick in their 60s. Arians is also in his 60s and a cancer survivor. And who knows what all those years of high stress have done to some of these guys' blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.

They did sign Teddy Bridgewater. We’ll see if it’s an improvement.
Bridgewater will be about the same cash-wise, but he'll be cheaper on the cap than Newton.

Whether he's an upgrade is highly debatable, but Newton hasn't been healthy in a long time and the team needs to rebuild anyhow because they're a) not good and b) in bad cap shape.

If Jake Fromm doesn’t sign some sort of endorsement deal with State Farm, I don’t know what we’re doing anymore.

Football related so I'll drop it here..

Start ups leagues are fun until the messy, inevitable end.

That’s what has happened with the XFL. After filing for bankruptcy, former commissioner Oliver Luck has filed a law suit against league owner Vince McMahon.

Luck’s lawyers stated despite fulfilling his obligations as commissioner and CEO since May 30, 2018, Mr. Luck was wrongfully terminated by Alpha Entertainment, an affiliate of the defendant.

According to The Action Network’s Darren Rovell, Luck was due a hefty salary.

Sources say Luck received a contract for in between $20-25 million over five years. The contract stipulated he’d be due the remaining balance if terminated without cause.

“The to-be-expected motion to dismiss from McMahon and the response will be interesting from a legal perspective,” said Darren Heitner, sports lawyer and founder of Heitner Legal.
