From the few write ups I have seen about Matos, I am kinda Luke-warm on him. How is Pomares?

Yeah I see Matos as a lower upside guy, Austin Slater type (which is totally fine). Might even end up a pitcher.

Pomares is interesting. I like his swing, just flicks the bat from the left side. Strong wrists. Only recently was on my radar.

Reminds me a bit of Steven Duggar to be honest.

I heard there's a chance he could play in the Arizona League this summer, which would be huge.

Not really an MLB story but not worth its own thread.

I'm in Chicago right now visiting family, and about 20 of us decided to go to a minor league baseball game. There's a new AA level team (unaffiliated) called the Chicago Dogs, this is their first season. Nice park, holds 6300 or so. They are in a 12 team league, and tonight they hosted the Cleburne (TX) Railroaders. Cleburne's cleanup hitter was a 1B named Patrick Palmeiro. I'm like hmmmm...

Next batter up...yep, his dad Rafael Palmeiro (DH of course he's like 55 years old). Palmeiro proceeds to hit a bomb to right center (small field, only 390 to center and 294 down the right field line) with his son on first.

Next AB, another 2 run bomb. Next one he walks, but makes out waddling from 2nd to 3rd on a 5-4-5 double play.

Last AB a long single scoring another run (a double for anyone who can actually run). 5 RBIs. Cleburne wins 5-4.

Palmeiro's line this season is hitting like .290 with 5 HRs in 78 ABs. Kind of fun.

He wanted to try out for a big league club and decided to play indy ball when he had no takers. Kinda cool for him and his son to play on the same team, even if it is an indy team.

I think the total payroll for each club in this league is $100k. Minimum $800/month for like 4 months. Parking was $3. Tickets were $10.

Minor league games are fun to attend. Totally different atmosphere than big league clubs. I grew up on single A games, which feel similar to what little indy games I've gone to when there was a team in Fullerton. Except, the indy games usually draw fewer people than affiliated clubs.

When I was in hs, my dad and I would go to 2 or 3 baby Giants games a year. Those were a lot of fun.

Gearrin, Jackson and minor leaguer Jason Bahr to the Rangers for cash and a player to be named later. Duggar and Black called up. Duggar leading off and playing CF. Article on MLB at-bat

Found this too.

Giants ship OF Jackson, RHP Gearrin to Texas

Ray Black and his 104 mph FB has arrived.

Should be fun.
Agreed but we need Duggar to bring some offense more
