The way Cle brought him to play w/ LBJ then tried to change how he plays was detrimental. He's never recovered from that IMO.
They played for 3 titles and won 1. They did the same with Bosh and that was also "detrimental".

In fairness, BG is earning that contract. He might have his share of injuries but he's having a great season. 26ppg, 8rpg, 5apg. And he's a draw for the fans so they can sell the seats in their arena. Which is a huge reason they traded for him. They didn't have a star player at the time.

Love has played in 4 games this season.
And if it was a 1 year contract you might have something. Never mind Love helps the Cavs more by not playing. Detroit would probably be better off tanking than being mediocre with Griffin.

I know supermax contracts have not had the impact the NBA has wanted in terms of enticing star players to resign with the teams that drafted them instead of taking the AD route, but I do anticipate 1 major change in the horizon.

The $ figures have gotten so crazy that I do think we will see fewer non-elite players get offered max contracts. Contracts of guys like John wall and CP3 are going to make teams think twice before committing that kind of money to a non-superstar.

And that is good for the league. Because players like Mike Conley and Gordon Hayward should not be making superstar money.
Mentioned earlier....I don't know if they get it, but would think the owners would like to have some kind of franchise tag like the NFL. Obviously, they'll need to give something for the players to accept (if they even would).

I hate be a broken record but had the Pistons hit on any of their lotto picks this is a different team. That's what has killed them. Bullock and Smith are good depth pieces but the rest are trash. And yes I agree you have to have the pieces from guardplay.
Just curious...did they miss on guys that would have been good picks based on where they were taken and where the Pistons picked?

He's a weird case. Like you said, he seems to turn on and off at weird times. I think the Cavs got a decent package back for him, can give Stauskas and Baldwin a shot this year to see if there's anything there, along with a few picks. Stauskas has emerged a bit more as a shooter this year.
I figured they could get more for Hood than Hill at the beginning of the year so I guess it evened out.

In both Winslow and Mitchell's case they were the favored player by fans and the very next pick

Trading for Love with that contract is a net negative. The Cavs will be lucky to get anything other than some 2nd round picks and bad contracts back for him now.

BOOM.

Not going to happen with that contract. If he was bought out, sure (but that sure as hell isn't going to happen with a brand new contract). He has always been too expensive for a third option on a good team (which is essentially what he is).
He was the #2 option on a Finals' team last year. I do think AD is better, but for the most part he has been Love with Minnesota. Great player, great stats, little team success.

Ouch...thought it might be situations like Cavs fans whining about not taking Klay, Kawhi or drummond who went well after the Cavs' picked. Next pick? Ouch again.

Love is a net negative for LA? You, too? They have another guy who would give them scoring, rebounding and outside shooting from the 4 or 5 position?

Is Lebron just dumb for wanting him in Cleveland to get Lebron to come back AND went much further out of his way to keep him there than he did Kyrie?

2018: 1st rounder traded to Clippers (Blake Griffin trade)
2017: drafted Luke Kennard one spot before Donovan Mitchell
2016: drafted Henry Ellenson just before Malik Beasley and Caris LeVert (if they wanted PF, Siakam went 9 picks later)
2015: drafted Stanley Johnson at #8, ahead of Myles Turner and Devin Booker
2014: 1st rounder traded to Charlotte (Corey Maggette trade)
2013: drafted Kentavious Caldwell-Pope ahead of CJ McCollum, Steven Adams, and Giannis Antetokounmpo

He's injury prone and played in 4 games this season.

Not interested in a broken down player who may play 40-50 games a season by the time we hypothetically traded for him. There are better players available this summer.

5/$113M for a guy that has played in 52% (and dropping) of the Cavs games the past 2+ seasons? He's broken down and slowing. Again, not a modern NBA player at this point, as he can't switch defensively much. He doesn't fit the Lakers cap.

yet the "broken down player" plays as much as the guy you do want to trade for.

Weird.

You really cannot grasp this tanking thing. If the Cavs were winning Love would be on the court. Like he has been when they needed him other than when Olynyk tried to rip out his arm.

You also keep ignoring that Lebron insisted the cavs trade for him AND resign him. But what does he know?

He's getting close to returning. First full-contact practice last Thursday. Regardless, foot/ankle/leg injuries on an aging big man are not a good sign.

I think your Cavs are having trouble grasping this tanking thing, winning 2 of their last 3 and now in the 3rd slot behind the Knicks and Suns.
