Former NBA exec: Cavs did nothing wrong in waiving McCaw

According to former Brooklyn Nets basketball man and current ESPN analyst Bobby Marks, the Cavaliers did no wrong when they signed Patrick McCaw to a two-year contract, then waived him a week later.

In fact, the whole thing may be little more than a case of sour grapes from the Golden State Warriors.

“The offer sheet was within the rules of the CBA,” Marks tweeted. “The Cavaliers shouldn’t be held responsible because it would have cost Golden State $11 million towards the tax. If there is an issue, change the rules in the next CBA.”

Don’t the three worst teams all have an equal chance at the top pick? Winning the occasional game isnt as big of a deal as it used to be for the tankers.

the only real advantage of finishing lower is that your downside isnt as bad. You cannot fall as far

the odds for 1-5 are very very similar- but i dont think the worst record can fall past #4 while the 5th worst record can fall to like 8-9....


With the Cavs- if they finish with the worst record- its highly highly highly likely that they get at least a top 3 pick.

There is a better than 50% chance the #1 team will pick in the top 4.

That has a nice ring to it.

I mean he sacrificed 5.2M (at least 2.6M of it was guaranteed, 2nd year was a team option) an actual role on the defending world champs and he declined. The Warriors were terribly thin in their back court and were actually counting on him this year, lol. He's a free agent now and we'll have to see what he does. I've seen reported that there are teams that are interested in him. I think he'll get at least 1 more shot in the league somewhere.

I read that GS has reached out to the league offices and asked for an investigation into the Cavs role in helping McCaw become a free agent. The way they offered him a non-guaranteed contract and then waived him when GS declined to match that offer which made him a FA- seems like something ain't clean in the milk.

Yeah. I'm sure it was discussed as a possibility, but proving it is going to be insanely difficult. You'd have to have some sort of paper trail, and I don't believe his agent would be dumb enough to leave one.
