Can we not?

Don'ta need a FA LB with an injury history like that. How many games did Green play this year?
If they didn't want to pay Timmons the 10-12mil, then I'm not buyin that they would pay for Hightower. If they did, then it would be a true knee-jerk signing and they'd likely regret it.

My feelings on him are like my feelings for vick....fuck off.
We make linebackers in the NFL famous, we don't need this cock-head

Donta is better than Vince Williams by a good stretch.

But Vince doesn't have the injury history, and he's also a lot cheaper. Also, Donta fills the same role as Shazier, who is his equal, and our current prevailing packages only leaves room for one ILB to be on the field most snaps.

This would be a terrible move.

Yep... had the same convo with @ATL96Steeler about Timmons prior to '16 season, about whether it was worth payin Timmons the $15mil for a position that is being subbed off the field in most 3rd down situations. Seems as though Butler didn't deploy the big nickel nearly as much last season, so there's that.

But the 3rd down issues remain... And need to be fixed asap!

V-Will is a 2-down LBer that is exposed in coverage. I'd hate for them to think that V-Will could instantly fill Timmon's shoes, because that would be a mistake. Hightower would be able to play the role for 3 downs, but I just don't want them to overpay.

And Timmons wasn't quite the Winged God of Linebacker Pass Coverage anymore either.
I think we could look more towards a big safety for the part-time role, rather than filling it with another linebacker who can only do an adequate job.

Let the position leave with LT, and forge ahead the right way.

Yea he is definitely in decline. It was easily detectable in coverage.

Whether it is with scheme and/or personnel it will be interesting to see which path they take. I'm hoping they take a hard look and fix the scheme, vs keep trying to cover up the problem with young & fast players. That will always come back to bite them in the end.

If they were interested in that sort of trash then I'd have serious concerns for the future of this team. Both with the coaches & owners.

Basically we need another Sean Davis.

Maybe even consider a safety in R1.

I'd love for them to draft another Shazier-like prospect for the job... Reddick would be that guy. But regardless I think they need to upgrade Mike Mitchell so the safety position is still on my radar. Mitchell is a bit of a dunce in coverage, not to mention a tool.

He is.

He thinks he's a superstar, but his brains and body can't cash the checks his ego is writing. And that ends up getting him burned more than he should.

He's on the visit list, so they are looking. Big, strong, and has man coverage skills.

Yep, he thinks being one of the hardest hitting safeties in the league gives him the title as the best. While hitting is a huge part of the position, its not the most important. Now that they are in the tail-end of his contract, they are having to dish out $8mil per year until he's a UFA in '19. He's bein paid the 4th highest safety contract in the NFL this season, ahead of the likes of Mathieu, Chancellor & R Jones... That's ludicrous

Agree. Would be an upgrade BUT only at the right price! I bet Hightower can get more from the Pats so, I wonder if he's using these last couple visits (Jets, Steelers) to drive up the amount he gets fro NE.
