most likely, but hes younger, if its in the same ball park is all im saying

Timmons will have to sign at ball park the same as what he was making. Ideally they would want him short term at 5 to 6 mil....which is why he will be going to Miami, they can and will offer him the bigger money. No way Hightower goes after a deal such as this, he already has the rings, now he wants the payout. I don't even see The Burgh tossing an offer at him.

When the F/O is hell bent on resigning a schmuck like Jones, they are not even looking at Hightower.

We have six titles. We almost always compete. I shouldn't complain about the way they do things. Just sucks to see the Patriots sign Gilmore while we bring back Jones and Johnson. Would be nice to see them so close last year, making a push this year.

MIA is his new home $12 mi/2 yrs $11 guaranteed.

Schefter: Dolphins Sign Lawrence Timmons To Two Year Deal - Steelers Depot

I think Hightower will get at least that much, likely more.

As much as I like LT and wish him well, the Steelers need to solve the 3rd down puzzle...and neither LT or Hightower are that guy to me.

They need a hybrid type LB they can run with RB/TEs (Fenney and they thought he a was an OLB prospect?) If all the edge guys are gone I can see them going for Peppers from MICH.

@FaCe-LeE-uS

With LT now in MIA, the go forward plan on the DEF should be fairly clear...fix 3rd down...not to beat a dead horse, but the past 2 seasons the Steelers have posted middle of the pack or slightly better defenses against points...that looks okay on paper, but they have also ranked in the mid 20s against 3rd down conversions...the two most important components to cure that...pass rush and better coverage.

The Steelers might sign a CB in FA, but I think this clearly opens up guys like Peppers, and Reddick or guys with that skill set in this draft early vs later.

With the moves the Pats are making...if Tomlin and crew want to get past them they better step on it.

Agreed. I'm hoping to see them make ends meet with Logan Ryan today. Heard there was mutual interest at one point. If that happens then definitely! Colbert is one of the best GMs in the league with finding decent mid-tier value in FA so I bet we'll start to hear the Steelers making moves today or tomorrow.

I'm starting to feel a 1-2 punch at the LB position like in Tomlin's 1st year.

Next up!

Steelers lose out on Logan Ryan, but still have options for a veteran CB

Just not coming with enough cash.

Steelers better pull out the checkbook or else Cooper will be gone as well. Bears already signed Prince Amukamara & now have eyes on Cooper.

I'm not expecting the Steelers to land Cooper...the Bears have a ton cap cash, if they really want him he's going to CHI. If there's a silver lining here...Cockrell is getting passed over during this 1st wave. If that holds up...what PIT really needs is insurance/competition for the slot and or depth outside.

Had the same thought... But I still fear that Cockrell will be gone. Too many CB needy teams out there.

Yeah, still some concern on my part as well, but if prior history holds form as we get into next week, the prices tail off some so I would think the Steelers wouldn't have a problem matching what Cockrell might get offered.

The one thing we can rely on...Colbert has been thru this many times... Tomlin should have a grip on some level himself now. I think they knew losing Timmons was a possibility LY so they signed VW as insurance to a cap friendly deal. I don't know if they expected the fall off from Gay, but at this point they know they can't count on Golson so I thought they might be a little more aggressive with a slot guy. That is more difficult knowing they have some exposure with Cockrell and must have some reserves to match there if needed.

And...it's just week one of FA, so we'll see what happens from today forward. I too feel something will happen this coming week.

12:12 tee time so I'm heading out to get loose.

BTW..been meaning to ask...how is life? the new locale, job, being a new dad...lot of changes for you lately.

NFL free agency 2017: CB Marcus Cooper joins Bears, becomes 4th Rutgers alum to sign

You were right @ATL96Steeler ... Looks like the FA CB pool is thinning out.

Remaining:
1. Claiborne (DAL) 5th season
2. Carr (DAL) 9th season
3. Robey-Coleman (BUF) 4th season
4. Flowers (SD) 9th season
5. Revis (NYJ) 10th season
6. House (JAX) 6th season
7. Thomas (BUF) 3rd season
8. Wright (BAL) 6th season
9. Moore (NO) 6th season

Not really familiar with any of these guys except of course Revis.

Claiborne is a good talent, former top 10 pick, but injury problems have plagued him pretty much from his rookie yr...doubtful he will get a huge deal, maybe a 1 yr prove it contract or a lower level deal to stay in DAL.

Some reports of interest in Flowers....I think he's an upgrade over Gay. As you get deeper into the list I start to wonder if a draft pick will give you equal production.

My thoughts exactly. Don't know enough about Flowers, but veteran depth is typically good for slot duties. 1 yr younger than Gay so you would have to imagine he'd be a 1-yr rental if brought in. I'd rather them invest for the future with draft picks & let the rookies get the experience.

Everything is goin great! Finished up a house remodel last fall just before the baby arrived. It's been bliss ever since. First month was a bit rough, but compared to what I've heard from others that have gone through the newborn baby phase we had it made! Little man is almost 7months, just started to sit up and we're expecting the crawl to start any day now. Been working a lot from home so that's been a huge plus for the family. Really excited for the weather to start turning for the better. We got hammered with snow this winter.

What about you man? How's life back east? Lucky man getting to golf already. I think only 1 course has opened its range so far in my neck of the woods.

If this fuckin team goes another year with shitty DB's and thinking William Gay is the answer in the answer....they really need to have CT scans from the coaches on up!!!

Not disregarding guys like Artie Burns, but he is still young and does not yet have it all figured out.

Mother fuck, someone get Troy on the phone!!!!

If Colbert does his job he should be able to provide talent that replaces Gay. Gay, IF he makes the 53 this year (big IF), should be limited to spot starting duties in the slot 3-5 games max while they groom a player or for injury relief.

Burns... One thing that has been annoying the shit out of me this offseason is the overreactions from the fanbase & analysts on Burns. A lot of people act as if he's already a Darrell Revis in his prime. He's young & talented, but far from a polished product. People seem to forget that things can go south quickly with DBs. It wasn't that long ago that we all thought Cortez Allen was the solution for Ike Taylor's replacement. He flashed early in his first couple starts, like Burns, but then regressed the following season until he ultimately crashed & burned. Or more recently people were humping Cockrell's leg after his week 2 showing when he shadowed AJ Green and basically shut him down... Then by midseason people were calling for his head.

I don't think Burns will end up in the same boat, but I'm certainly tempering my expectations.
