Hasn't he dealt with significant injuries? He was a hot shot prospect.
Yeah, hes only played one full season in the majors.

But his issues have been the same his entire pro career. Sorta low contact with pretty much unimpressive power. He hit a lot of singles when he first came up to Detroit and then had a nice season going when he got dealt. Other than that, hes been kinda consistent.

Well. Mondesi had another nice day as well as Dozier. Would make things less of a headache if those two happened to turn into decent players.

I agree, the WBC is pretty pointless. If they are going to have it, it should be after the WS, so if a player gets hurt, they will have time to heal up before the season. Of course this won't work, because everyone is watching football then and really no one will give a shit.

Mondesi looked to have a real quick bat when I saw him. And he's fast.

Now all we need is Vice to come in and say those things don't matter.

He has a nice and quick swing- it's more pitch recognition with him at this point and I suspect just watching him. So far so good- but I am hardly sold given it is spring training in the hot desert air.

He's not exactly been a contact hitter, right?

I just remember him yanking one down the line in Detroit last year and being caught off guard. I liked his cut.

I would really think so looking at his swing, bat speed, and aggression but so far he has generally been around 20-25% give or take in the minors. I wouldn't expect him to deviate too far from that until he either

A) Stops being overmatched, in which case he won't be in MLB period at this point no matter how shitty Merrifield and Colon are.
B) Makes a big leap, in which case the K rate will drop to around 15% I am guessing which in modern MLB I guess masquerades as a contact hitter.

He's never not been rushed offensively so I have no idea what a finished product really looks like with him.

Looking at his line right now in ST according to MLB.com, it's 529/529/765 with 1 HR, 1 2B's, and 3 SO's in 17 PA's.

There's always that chance for the guy who makes better contact at the MLBlevel. On account of pitchers being around the plate more.

I can't give examples, but I've heard tales.

If he can play the field, you could do a lot worse for the price.

Tigers are 3-9 this spring. However, doug and I talked it over and we both have given Brad Ausmus a 'Vote of Confidence'...going into the season.

Then he better start updating his resume, since he won't be coming north with the team.

Spring Training record means squat. The 1984 Tigers went something like 11-19 in ST.

Don't know how true it is going from AAA to the majors, but my brother once said it was true going from AA to AAA. He hit better in AAA than he did in AA, and he said the main reason was the AAA pitchers threw more strikes, so you were more ready to hit.
