Verlander - I wonder if any GM could be tricked into trading for him if the Tigers picked up one of his two final years on his contract? Tigers shouldn't expect a lot, player-wise, in return. But Verlander at an average salary of $14mil for 2018 and 2019 wouldn't be terrible....as long as you didn't spend any top prospect to get him. Tigers need the dough!

Verlander still has the ability to pitch well, but I think Wahoo hit the nail on the head just using the eye test. I haven't researched it in great detail to ponder it more stringently, however. He's always been prone to some meathead pitching, imo.
He retired the first 16 batters he faced last night.

For the second time in his career.

What's meathead pitching?

Verlander is not going to be worth $28mil a year for the next two seasons. Detroit needs to rebuild and moving Verlander and saving around $28mil dollars would be a huge step in the right direction, IMO. (It won't happen....but it would be a great move if it did)

What's Meathead pitching? I didn't even know Rob Reiner was pitching in professional baseball. Is Gloria Bunker playing in WNBA?

Trading Verlander without getting anything good in return won't help a rebuild, it's not like they can use that money to draft players overslot anymore.

I watched "Archie Bunkers Place" for the first time the other night.

Not as good.

Mike, Gloria and Edith were pretty vital it seems.

Sorta like. LeBron. He is not worth the 25 million. He can't win another ring. Waste of money.

On the other hand...matt Stafford will soon be highest paid NFLer. He is worth every penny

You are not going to get anyone good in return for Verlander. Just my view....if I could re-coop $28mil from the $56mil they will pay Verlander in 2018-19....I'd like to see that money spent on free agents (lower level FA obviously) who could fill in some spots during the years of rebuilding. Keeping Verlander around, while he is a mid-rotation, at best, starter and paying him $28mil a season makes no sense. They probably will have no choice....it is just something I would like to see happen.

I guess it is a good idea to change sports, huh doug? Sense your pick for the AL Central title is currently tied for last place. I suppose your next topic is Jumping Jimmy Harbaugh?

So. You agree? LeBron can't win another ring. So it's a waste of 25 million...

Bleak times in ohio.
Worse part is. Jimbo khaki pants schools little urban. Indians extend 1948 to another year. Brown's are the browns... CAVS luck the shoes of the warriors. Lions are much improved. Stafford is on the corner. Ready to turn it. Michigan football is back to national dominance...tigers working on getting brad fired. It's hard. But must get done

Don't care....this is a board for baseball. If you don't have anything to add to baseball (as usual), why not head over to a basketball board. NBA draft tonight...add your VAST knowledge to the debates. LOL

As I said - your baseball knowledge is nil. And you embarrass your self by posting the little you know. Seriously....move on. September 22

First baseball season living in Detroit... been watching a lot of Tigers baseball, including this entire M's series in Seattle.

Why in god's name hasn't K-Rod been released yet? ERA climbing back over 7. It's hilarious... this guy is a f'ing gas can.

He had a nice career, but good golly... Time to hang em up buddy.

He was a top 5 pitcher last year, hard to say he's mid rotation at best. If he can regain that form, and he showed some promise last night, he'd be worth his contravt, and would be easily trade able in the offseason/ at next year's deadline. I don't think it would be wise to sell low now.
