He will likely never "pitch up to his contract" again, but that's on Mike Ilitch for offering so much over so many years. JV can only control what he can control at this point, and from all I've read, seen and heard, he works extremely hard between starts to be of value to his team as often as he can.

I'm not saying he's beyond criticism. But let's have a little perspective.

In an effort to add more velocity he lost the movement on his FB making it a worse pitch, and his new release point caused his curve to go to shit. He's shown signs of improvement his last two times out, though hes still struggled with control.
