It was a strange, erotic journey from the bench...

There are two draft eligible Finns (Laine and Puljujarvi) that are looking very good in this tourney.

So the Isles are 4 pts ahead of 9th place and Garth can "sit back", but the Preds are 5 pts ahead of 9th place and the GM needs to get off his ass and get some scoring?

The teams are in entirely different situations. The Islanders have a superstar forward & some solid complimentary guys. Nashville is led on offense by their defenseman. What I'm proposing they do is trade 1 of their top 4 defenseman for some help at forward. Hamonic has apparently given Garth 6 teams he'd have no problem being traded to. There is a lot of interest around the league for Hamonic. I don't see how Nashville wouldn't be in a similar position if they were willing to trade one of their top 4 defenseman. In fact they would be in a better position because they could trade the defenseman they choose to any team in the league. This isn't rocket science, the Predators need to do something to help their offense if they're going to contend this season & beyond. If Nashville stands pat their season will end the same way it always has every time they've made the postseason.

Barring a total collapse by the Americans against Denmark tomorrow, Canada is locked into third in their pool. That means they'll play the winner of tomorrow's Finland-Czech Republic game in the quarterfinal.

Thanks for the info. I haven't been able to watch. How has Beauvillier looked thus far?

Not too bad, but really it's been Barzal, Strome, and Virtanen that have been leading the way up front. Mitch Marner needs to step it up a notch.

Everything I've seen, heard & read about Barzal says he was an absolute steal at 16. It makes up for Dal Colle a bit, but I haven't given up on him yet. I think he needs to play with a good playmaking center.

Well Soderstrom has two shutouts so far. I guess he was great against the U.S.A..

The one thing that impresses me the most about this tournament is how young these guys are. Yet so many of them do amazing things on the ice. I hope it's a great tournament dash. Enjoy!!

I thought it was goal differential...but you could be right on that. In that case second is pretty much set with a win vs Denmark.

Yep, barring a regulation loss by Canada combined with a regulation win by the Danes the standings in that pool are set.

USA beats Denmark 4-1.

The Canada vs Sweden game is pretty much meaningless for the Canadians. Regardless of the outcome Canada will face the winner of Czech vs Finland which is currently scoreless.

Confirmed quarterfinals:

Denmark vs. Russia
Sweden vs. Slovakia

If the Czechs win it will be

USA vs Finland
Canada vs Czech Republic

If Finland wins it will be

USA vs Czech Republic
Canada vs Finland
