Is everyone assuming it a given that Dirk stays?

I heard the Warriors were interested along with a couple other contenders. If Cuban continues to strike out, Dirk could go too.

I was assuming.

But, that would be filthy.

I don't think anybody is saying that.

Personally, I think he can get 12 and 9 if healthy and playing 30 plus minutes (big ifs there). Even if he does, that does not mean he is helping the team win. He is a post defender/rim protector in an era when post defense is almost unnecessary. I don't think his 30 year old knees will allow him to be a good pick and roll defender, so I think he will end up being a negative on that end.

Since his 12 points are not likely to be super efficient and since Mozzy takes up so much space on the offensive block, he is not really helping the Lakers offense either.

Moz is a solid back up center getting starter money on a long term deal. That is tough.

Purguy most definitely is.

If it was a 6 year deal I might agree......the only thing I can think of (since he was first one they went after) is they targeted him so that he could start for a few seasons and mentor Zubac (their center they got in 2nd round who has a lot of upside) until he's ready to take over.

Nobody is expecting the Lakers "to win" much next season. 35-38 wins, 40 at the max would be considered a success since they have a young starting lineup with Russ, Clarkson, Randle, and Ingram (if he starts).

Mosgov might be the Lakers version of Bogut, but Bogut isn't worth 16mil either. Of course saying "player X isn't worth the money he got" will be a recurring theme this offseason.

Maybe, and if Mozzy helps Zubac develop into a starting caliber center, maybe it is worth it.

Don't you think they could have landed him by offering something like $40 million over 2 years though? I would have rather seen them overpay more on the front end and retain flexibility when the youngsters have had a chance to develop a bit.

He should be able to improve his numbers with more consistent playing time. Even if he gets 10 and 6, it's an improvement over what the Lakers have been getting from that position. I'd expect that part of the reason for the signing is that the Lakers just drafted Zubac who was a projected 1st rounder who fell to them in the 2nd round.

Part of the reason for signing Mozgov may be about helping develop Zubac.
I think he can get close to those numbers but I dont see double double. 9-6 maybe 8-6.

If we didn't already have Lou Williams.....I'd be all over Jack right now. He can flat out play.

Disagree about rim protection being almost unnecessary. The Warriors could have used some in the recent finals.

If he can make up for some of the young guys defensive mistakes and average in the neighborhood of 7-10 rebounds per game, it'll be a plus.

Also, with the money we're seeing thrown around out there, what the Lakers are paying him may actually be backup center money.

If we don't show a lot of improvement this coming season......fire Mitch. He's one of the longest tenured front office people in the NBA.
