funny how the Cavs did it with big time star power and the Indians are doing it as a bunch of no-names with a very small payroll.

Its called being smart.

The Miami Heat are currently expected to wait until after March 1st to waive Chris Bosh to ensure he is not eligible to play in the playoffs for any team that signs him.

Bosh's salary would then vanish from Miami's cap sheet and create massive cap space for Pat Riley in the 2017 offseason.

If he was healthy, had a reasonable chance to resume his career elsewhere, sure.

But, that's not the case.

Say they release him now and by some miracle his health sorts itself out in a month or two....

The Heat would lose him, without compensation, and still owe his entire salary.

That's not smart business.

Even if the relationship is not salvageable, trading him for a 2nd round pick, or even for nothing, at least gets him off their books for 2017. Yeah, nobody is giving them anything for that contract....unless they know he's done and they are DESPERATE for cap relief.

There is no benefit to releasing him now.
