hey its just my opinion....watching grainy footage of guys who largely wouldnt have a prayer in todays NBA competing in a vastly smaller league, with vastly different rules, when at times the Finals wasnt even broadcast live, is just irrelevant to me.

The 3 pt line came into existence during the 79-80 season. Unless i am mistaken, Bird and Magic were drafted the previous year.

to me, and anyone that has a clue that writes about the NBA- that is the start of the "modern" NBA. Everything before that to me is just boring and irrelevant.

Everything that the NBA is today, is because of everything that has happened in it's history. That is why the history of the NBA is very important and therefore, not irrelevant.

Also, the addition of the 3 point line (which was actually invented in 1961) is an arbitrary time frame to denote the "modern NBA" that folks who are too lazy to actually learn the history of the game use to try to back their point.

Things that happened prior to modern technology aren't irrelevant just because the technology didn't exist. Part of the reason the NBA was on tape delay back then was because the technology didn't exist to be able to watch every single NBA game like we have today. That doesn't make what happened prior to that technology irrelevant.

As for the players today vs. back then. Much of the athletic differences that we see are simply the result of training and health techniques that didn't exist or weren't known at that time. For example, there was a time when basketball players were told not to lift weights. It was believed that it would create too much bulk and they would lose the flexibility that is necessary in basketball. At the time, there was a certain amount of truth to that because many of the current training techniques didn't exist. Eventually, people learned how to isolate muscle groups and increase strength without adding bulk.

To think that great players of the past would not avail themselves of the training techniques, nutrition and supplements that players use today and thus wouldn't be every bit as good as the greats of today, just shows how shortsighted you truly are.

I remember when MTV debut on cable.

Anyway, 20 years from now, Cavs fans will love watching old footage because now is the one and only time that they will ever have been this good.

wiggy probably thinks anything that happened in the NBA before '03 is invalid. The NBA really didn't mean anything until the league rigged the draft so His King could play for the Cavs.

I remember when Walt Wesley scored 50 points in a game for the Cavs.

Another interesting stat -- of the top 25 individual scoring games in NBA History -- 2 happened on the same day.

Wait a minute, LeBron wasn't the 1st Cav to score 50 in a game? wiggy will be so disappointed.

HARDEN with another 7 turnovers last night.
This historic chase of stats between Westbrook/Harden is likely to set untouchable turnover records.

Harden will be the first to lead the league in turnovers committed 3 years in a row.
Both him and Westbrook should obliterate the all-time records, making it like the DiMaggio 56 game streak.

No true Point guard has ever finished in the top 5 of turnovers and won a title in the modern era.
And only occasionally does it happen with 6'8 nontraditional Point-Forwards types like Pippen, Lebron, and Magic.

I give Kyrie Irving credit. He doesn't turn the fucking ball over with complete reckless carelessness.
