There are no built-in excuses here for the Warriors.

In the grand scheme of things, the Warriors have an entirely similar team without KD, to the one they had when they won the ship in 2015. They replaced one Barnes for another. They still could go 9 deep in the playoffs with quality players. They still have Steph, Klay and Draymond.

The biggest concern for me isn't Durant's injury. It's that the Warriors are only 4 games up on the Spurs for HCA. The Warriors will absolutely need that this year because of the injury to Durant.

Barnes doesn't kick guys in the plums, however. The guy is a douche, but on the court Draymond is worse.

Dray trolls players, coaches and never shuts up.

When he does this, maybe I put him with Barnes.

Yes but the Warriors also had Harrison Barnes as another very good player. Matt Barnes is a decent place holder, but he's not as good as HB. So there's a drop off there. Also the Warriors had Bogut there as an additional facilitator on offense.

The dynamic of the team changed when KD signed. It's not about his scoring, it's about focusing an offense around him and his skill. So a statement like "they were there last year without him" doesn't do justice to the impact it has on the team.

Of course the Warriors are still very skilled and very good and do not have any excuse, but acting like KD doesn't make a difference would be completely wrong.

Similar team but not identical. I wouldn't worry about HCA. 4 games is still a pretty solid lead. I don't think GS is going to fall off a cliff because of the Durant injury.

Of course, that's why I said similar. I wouldn't expect them to just transition back to the old ways, but just saying that the Warriors still have a lot of talent, and there are no excuses.

The biggest thing the Warriors will honestly miss from KD is his defense. He was playing absolutely amazing on defense this year and leading the team in blocks.

How? Do you know anything about Matt Barnes? Solid defender who can hit the 3 ball. Not a bad player to have as your backup SF.

If he was joining the Cavs we'd be hearing all about what a great pickup it was and what a genius Griffin is. The funny thing is, the Cavs could actually use his defense.

Yes KD does have a presence on the court but the Warriors are still the leading contender without him.

I wonder if the Warriors are thinking about bringing Terrence Jones on board. His 3 isn't great but I think he could fit. Not sure who they'd get rid of to make room for him though. He's better than McAdoo, right?
