Love Whiteside mentality

Being snubbed obviously hurt Whiteside, the league’s leader in rebounds this season, and last year’s leader in blocked shots. But what stings him perhaps even more is the notion centers aren’t as important to team success anymore.

It’s something he proved at least Wednesday wasn’t true when his 23 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks loomed large in an statement-making win over MVP candidate James Harden and the Rockets, who average at least six more three-point attemps per game (39.8 total) than the rest of the league and own the third-most wins (40) at the break.

“I would have loved for a center to represent the East,” Whiteside said when asked if he was disappointed he didn’t get the call from the league to replace Love. “But that's not what the fans want to see. Hey, the coaches voted him in. I really have no control over that. I’m trying to make the playoffs. That’s my focus.”

I still dont think you understand despite numerous posts about it- I WANT the Heat to win- I WANT the Heat to get the 8 seed- because that means they dont get a lotto pick, and i get to watch them play the Cavs and THE Tristan Thompson. I am ROOTING for them to win right now. I would be overjoyed to see the Cavs face them in the first round.

And for the 28474008th time, quit acting like if the Heat make the playoffs that the only seed they can get is 8th. If they keep playing like they have for the last month then the 7th seed is very much in play. What you don't understand is that this is the ultimate win-win situation for Miami

Predictions I blew from the start of the season:

1. Charlotte- they have been a huge disappointment

2. Washington- Porter's emergence, and Beale and Wall being healthy and productive has been great for them. Talent wise they just might be the 2nd best team in the East. John Wall might be the best non-Cavalier in the East.

3. Dallas Mavericks- i dunno- i thought Bogut would be useful, and Dirk fell off a cliff. Barnes has shown he was a good signing though

My best predictions:

1. Portland being a joke. It was a total fluke they "won" a playoff series last year- only because of LAC's injuries. They just are not that good and their defense is appalling

2. Celtics- I know a lot of people were high on the Celtics coming into the year- but starting a couple years ago once they hired Stevens I have been high on the Celtics- long before most people were. I think he was a great hire and they have done a really good job.

3. Knicks- they have 2 all star caliber players in Melo and Porzingis- but its just such a clusterfuck over there. Combinging bad unstable ownership with bad unstable management is a NOT a good combo.

why does this writer think Whiteside was "snubbed"?

Bradley Beale was snubbed. He is the 2nd best player on the 3 seed in the East and is having a helluva year. Beale was snubbed- Whiteside just didnt make it.

out of guys NAMED to the all star team and not voted in---- Kemba/Cousins were the only guys named to the team that are on bad teams. Carmelo is basically a legacy pick. I dont know how a guy on a team that is 10th in the East was "snubbed".

Rudy Gobert was DEFINITELY snubbed. Mike Conley.

2017 NBA All-Star Game snubs: Embiid, Gobert, Wade, CP3, Melo left off the list

this CBS article doesnt have Whiteside in the next FIFTEEN guys.

What a cancer.

All joking aside, when I saw it was down to Melo and him, I knew he wasn't going to the all-star game.

Jared Dudley was pretty pissed. He said it is politics. He said Beal should have gotten the spot which I can see

Actually the league chose Anthony, not the coaches, and it had nothing to with deserving, it was all about ratings and bringing in the NY market.

Beal made sense, but the East is full of Beal 'type' players.

On XM NBA radio this morning they said Whiteside was next had Melo declined.

That's all that means is that the CBS article is laughable.

As far as team records, it matters more then it should, plus its selective.

I don't really give 2 shits about the ASG, but it would have been just another deserved reward for probably the most improved player in the world over the last 24 months.

Jared Dudley had some interesting thoughts on the NBA's decision to invite Carmelo Anthony to the All-Star game as an injury replacement for Kevin Love. Dudley said Washington's Bradley Beal was more deserving and that the NBA chose Anthony because he was more widely-recognized by the public than Beal.

I think Beal didn't get it because it was a replacement for Love's spot which is for a forward which Melo and Whiteside meet, not Beal. Beal does have a reason to be pissed though as Wade got in over him.

bradley beale got snubbed. whiteside just didnt make it. rudy gobert got snubbed. whiteside just didnt make it. its pretty sad listening to how a guy got "snubbed" on a team thats 10th in the East. If you are 10th in the East and didnt make the all star game- its prob better to just keep quiet and hopefully next year you actually lead your team to a good record and DESERVE a spot. its hard to have sympathy for a guy that didnt make the all star on a bad team.

im fine with kemba making it- coaches voted him in- whatever- however, if he didnt make it- no one wants to hear how a guy got snubbed for the all star game on a crappy team.

Find 1 post where I ever said Whiteside should have been selected as an All Star this season.
It doesn't exist.

As far as your opinion on snubbed vs didn't make it, its just that, its your opinion.
I can easily make a case for Whiteside over Beal and a case, easily for both over Anthony.

As far as your 10th in the East, yes they, are, but they are 1st in the NBA over the last 18 once they got healthier.

Bottom line is like most things, it was a business decision, which is fine.

this is from CBS last month when Whiteside was crying about Embiid getting more votes then him because of "gimmicks" on twitter:

An All-Star voting story: Joel Embiid trolls Hassan Whiteside

That Whiteside would feel this way is not surprising. Before catching on with the Heat in 2014, he bounced around the D-League and played in Lebanon and China, all the while believing that he belonged in the NBA. He is saying that he thinks his name brings with it a negative connotation, and that was definitely true earlier on in his career.

It is a stretch, though, to say that he is being treated unfairly now. His individual numbers -- 17.5 points, 14.3 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, 55.4 percent shooting -- are indeed excellent, but Miami is one of the worst teams in the NBA, and those teams are rarely represented in the All-Star Game.

One might try to make the case that Whiteside is the reason the Heat aren't quite as bad as the Brooklyn Nets. Miami is 13th in defensive rating, after all, and Whiteside is one of the league's most prolific shot-blockers. That argument falls apart, though, when you look at his on/off numbers -- the Heat have been significantly better on defense when Whiteside has been on the bench. This is because, despite him being an intimidating presence around the rim, he's not effective guarding the perimeter and can be goaded into trying to block shots at the expense of solid team defense.

If there wasn't much frontcourt talent in the East, perhaps you could look past those numbers and put Whiteside in based on his offense and his rebounding. There is not, however, a shortage of players competing for these All-Star spots. Without even thinking, I'd put LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Paul Millsap and Kevin Love ahead of Whiteside. There are good arguments for Al Horford, Joel Embiid and Kristaps Porzingis, too. Whiteside has the talent to be an All-Star, but it won't be some kind of mistake if he's left off this year.

Embiid should worry about his own career.
He's looking like the next Greg Oden to me, which is a shame, because he's a unique talent.

As far as Whitesides numbers, when that was written, who was on the court with him?

If you ACTUALLY WATCHED games, you would know that Whiteside hasn't been chasing blocks at all this season.

I'm talking during the voting process.
Not once did I say Whiteside should make it.

I said he's more deserving then Melo as far as play (after Love injury), but I totally get why they chose Anthony.

Yep very poor article. I mean common sense should tell you that he's not chasing blocks since his blocks per game are at a career low.

Also that article was written over a month ago back when the Heat were 11-30

i think there are a few guys more deserving than Anthony- Bradley Beale being the main one. It surprises me a guy avergaging 22 a game that has really improved this year on the 3 seed didnt make it as a replacement.

really, Anthony, Beale, and whoever else technically- none of them "deserved" to make it and if Love didnt get hurt we wouldnt even be having this conversation.
