Andrew Wiggin's burner account
If there is one thing I've learned from the recent ascension of the Warriors, is that there is no right way to construct a team. It's about maximizing value from players and playing towards strengths. Whiteside's ability to shoot or pass could be relegated to a non-factor, based on the surrounding cast and scheme. He is though already good enough to anchor a defense in the middle.
As for his perimeter defense, DAJ is pretty terrible on the perimeter as a defender. Bogut was a terrible perimeter defender (continually played under in the pick and roll), but because of the length of the Warriors wings, it wasn't exploited.
The thing is every player has a weakness. The teams that can hide it the most are usually the most successful. If you look at the Blazers, they have the worst defensive back-court in the NBA. But because of guys like Harkless, Aminu, Crabbe, who are all versatile defenders, they negated a lot of deficiencies of Dame and CJ.
It's clear the Heat need a rebuild, but Whiteside is far from being the weakest link there.
