I think choking away a 3-1 lead in the finals is a lot worse than winning the series (Reggie's case)
Right because Reggie knows what it feels like to win a title....errr wait, what?

i think people who think 2-3 extra wins is important over possibly keeping a pick like that need their head examined.

I also think people who think tanking is a clear definition of long term discuss need to take a pair of scissors, run around and let nature take its course.

hey- when you tank you give yourself a good chance to get an elite player.

without an elite player you never win anything.

you think the Heat would have a title if not getting a top 5 pick and Dwade?

its a very simple and obvious answer.

That year we got Wade was due to injury with Zo (kidney issues).

The year the Spurs got Duncan was when Robinson was out for the year.

Fostering a loser mentality sticks with teams.

Let me know a team has purposefully tanked for a number of years and worked out. By your admission, the 76ers have a roster better than the Heat's. Where's the 76ers currently in the standings? Just curious.

hey if you can get a top 5 pick - or the #1 overall pick like Duncan without overtly tanking---- so much the better- by my guest- I cant argue with you that is the very best way to do it---- im sure every team i nthe league would love to get a top 5 pick without haivng to tank------ but im actually trying to live in the real world here and not the world of gum drop clouds and lollipop telephone poles and rivers of pure chocolatey goodness. lol.

my argument is- you arent going ANYWHERE without an elite player

the easiest way to get an elite player - ESPECIALLY in today's nba under the new CBA is with a high lotto pick. The easiest way to get that- is to be as bad as possible- the incentives to be a mediocre team are AWFUL in the NBA

i mean- the NBA incentivizes it- until they change the rules where the worst teams get the best shot at the best players- its a common sense strategy.

if you can go and make a trade for Paul George and not give up half your team- or you can draft a guy 15th and he turns out to be a franchise guy--- be my guest. That is 100% preferable to tanking.

Its just no realistic.

and hey- it happens

the draft a couple years ago was the perfect example

there looks like there was 3 franchise type players in that draft--- Towns, Porzingis and Booker---- Booker wasnt taken in the top 5. Giannis for the Bucks- taken 12th if i do remember correctly in the previous draft- you can find franchise guys outside the top 5

The odds are just stacked against you in a major way.

and really?

you want to grade the 76'ers when Embiid is what? 20? 21? Simmons cant legally drink- Dario Saric is what? 22-23 and just came over?

cmon now. If you want to grade them 3-4 years from now- and its a failure--- hey be my guest. To do so right now is incredibly stupid.

And shit- the Heat are definitely better than the Sixers are this year- but what is their ceiling?-- who is more likely to be a team that can contend faster?

We shall see in the coming years--- but im betting on Simmons and Embiid and Saric, and whoever they get this year with possibly TWO MORE top 5 picks. Im betting on Wiggins and Towns and Dunn (and whoever they get this year

big on this tank thing lol...

guess that one title was well worth it in someone's estimation...:heh:

And if it weren't for Lebron, this team would be at the bottom of the playoff standings if not out of it.

Culture makes a difference.

Yeah and don't get why people say this and then say they are a super team, not saying you said that. Lebron makes this team go.

66 and 61 game winning seasons. that excuse is getting sooooo tiresome...

You know basketball, if you do, you know what his roster looked like. Nothing compared to others on that list. The roster was shit and Lebron carried them. Don't make me go over this again CL. Use your brains.

Another ex-player saying the NBA is soft.

Kenyon Martin.

Posted it here. Doesn't really deserve its own thread anymore.

Good grief. Even my old, grumpy ass is getting tired of the former players bitching.
