I'd feel a bit salty if I were Fed, though. Two recent wins over Djoke, but continues to struggle against him in major finals

Best of 5 is a different animal.

And in the last Fed win, Nole had played nearly every day for the past 2 weeks, and Fed was fresh as a daisy.

Well that's what make men's GS events great. It is a different beast than the rest of the season. Beating someone 3 of 5 is much more difficult than 2 of 3

Fed was the better player for most of the second and third sets. He lost because he came out flat and had the BP jitters. It had very little to do with talent or matchups. He just played poorly at pivital moments.

Do you rank Nole higher than Rafa if both retired today even Rafa has more majors?

Nole forced Fed to hit a bunch of amazing shots to stay competitive in the 2nd and 3rd sets.

Fed was tired in the 4th set.

That's what it came down to.

Not today, but it's getting close. If Nole gets two more slams and one is a French, I think he is pretty clearly ahead. He has had a higher any longer peak and had to deal with greater challengers.

In what way? Sometimes it is difficult to see whether we all watch the same match. Sometimes you need to give the opponent his due. If you ask Federer he will tell you he, Novak, played better and the result shows.

The press are going to ask Nole a lot more about the crowd in his interview, so that'll be interesting.

REALLY hope to see Nole pass Rafa in total slams.

Until he can win the French, there's no way he'll be considered in the same company with Rafa, though.

All that's true, but Fed should have won in three. If he makes his serve in the first, Fed's up 2-0 with about a thousand chances to go up a break in the third.

So many errors

Sometimes you hand it to the opponent. Even when Federer pressures him, Djokovic is able to zing some shots past him that were truly unbelievable.

Look at those fake fans. Acting like they're so happy for Novak
Well, they cheered for Vinci after she beat Serena, even though they had been rooting for Serena during the match.

Maybe they're just giving Djokovic his proper applause, like with Vinci?

Cezero I know you like to harp on the same record : best of five, blah blah blah, and always try to bring out the stats, but Fed was 4/23 on bp conversion, and even blew 0-40 on opponent serve, so had he converted more he woulda won the third set and ran away with the match and none of your usual talk would matter.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

He didn't.

Nole forced Fed to exhaust himself just to win a single set. It's a fact that Federer can't keep up that level of play for more than a few sets, and he proves it over and over again, hence 1 major title in 5 years.

It's not magic or luck that has given his opponent last night 9 majors in the same time span.

If Fed is still happy playing, then good for him. I think he could still win Wimbledon if he gets an amazing draw. I'd love to see him win one or two more.

Donald Young up 17 spots to #51. Need to keep climbing up the rankings so he can possibly be around the top 32 for the Aussie Open. Outside of that not much movement worth noting on the men's side.

On the Women's side, Pennetta up to 8th in the world and Vinci up 24 spots to 19th.
