Padres looking at acquiring either Justin Upton or Wil Myers, maybe with farm system they could get both...

Already have a nice rotation. With improvements to lineup, could really be a surprise team this year.

As everything sits RIGHT NOW, I see the West as a 3-team race, and I am not sure who I would pick for 2nd place. Further, I am not 100% convinced the doggies are the CLEAR #1.

Of course, the off-season is not over yet, and the Giants are bound to make a few moves (right?), so I don't think it is fair to count them out just yet.

I have heard Myers' name mentioned a few times this off-season.

Why would TB want to deal him? Granted his '14 was not a HOF year, but kid is still packed with talent and cheap. If they traded him now, they would be selling low.

SF definitely has plenty of time to make trades. Just as of this exact moment...think it's possible San Diego could have better season in 2015

All about SP depth it seems. padres farm system deep with SP prospects. TB also needs a catcher and SD has Austin Hedges, who is a wizard playing the backstop

Was just looking at rumors and saw Marlon Byrd being shopped.....

Not the greatest, but wouldn't be a bad option at the right price, of course.

Byrd could be a fantastic pick-up. He's had 2 pretty damn good seasons in '13 and '14, and he's only owed $8M for '15 (and prob $8M for '16, because he'll vest the option if he isn't on the DL). Why are the Phillies shopping him though? He's making bird-seed.

I am not saying the Padres don't have the pieces. I am just saying that I am surprised to see his name mentioned so often when he is a high-ceiling kid coming off a bad year.

Unless the Rays don't think it was so much a bad year as a telling year...

Also he's got no position here in SF. He's not gonna bump Belt (or Posey) from first, and while he's ok fielding 1B he's a huge mess in left as we all know. Just not a fit, sadly.

I actually thought he was going to be worse in LF. After the first few games (where he looked completely lost) he was kinda OK most of the season. But then he did absolutely blew a few plays during the rest of the season, just not as often as I expected. I expected him to be 'Trumble-bad', and he wasn't.

And yet, when the chips were in, during the Play-offs, the PsTB decided that Ishikawa was a better play than Morse.

So....Morse to the Marlins.....2/$8mil......

Now I am really hoping we do the Upton/Johnson deal with ATL.

Depends upon what we give up of course, but Johnson is not good, and Upton is a one year rental who hates AT&T...

Eternal optimist that I am, Giants can still have a successful offseason if we can sign:

Kang for the infield (ends up at 2B with Panik to 3B?)
Rasmus for the outfield
Shields as a SP

In Sabes We Trust

If we do Kang and Rasmus, I would hope they are the complimentary pieces to Scherzer, not Shields.

Well, I was trying not to be greedy. Money aside, I'd rather have Scherzer, at least for a year or three. I'd be very uncomfortable with Scherzer at 7/200. In 2010 we talked about signing Timmy for that kind of money. That would have been a disaster.

agreed. I wanted Byrd last year big time instead of Morse. If we could get him for a song we should.
