I am surprised Toronto gets ANY FAs. The taxes players have to pay there are pretty considerably higher. May be one of the reasons why Martin got such a massive deal from them.

Not sure taxes are much worse in Canada than they are in California. Your state income taxes on higher income residents are approaching confiscatory.

Good point.

Of course, taxes are applied to the location of each game, not where your home team is based. Therefore, Giants players pay US/CA taxes on about 75% of their contract (50% in SF, about 25% in LA, SD, Oakland) and about 5% (whatever the actual number is) of their contract gets taxed for US/NY because of their games against the Mets (etc etc).

I am sure the Agents have all the charts and what each dollar equates to for each team.

Probably worked into Stanton's thinking in signing with Miami. State income tax = 0% in FL.

Your highest rate = 12.3% on amounts over $519,687.

Over the life of Stanton's contract, that's almost $40 million. :omg:

Compared to NEW YORK CITY? Whose residents have to pay federal, state and CITY taxes?

8.82% plus 3.876% is 12.696% (for people working in NYC). That's on top of the federal tax.

I can live with equating NY to California when it comes to the Ruling Elite crushing the middle class.

That's the middle class making $519K+? Sign me up!

I think the ruling elite probably pay more taxes than the middle class.

I don't know about "considerably," they all get Foreign Tax Credit for most of their Canadian taxes.

Hmm, it has the feel of a PR story to me.

It doesn't really matter who tweets what, it's kind of silly for us to hang on every scrap of rumor. We made an offer, Boston made one, Toronto may make one. Panda will pick one. We have zero control over it.

While I agree, at the same time, I think Sabean was forged quite a bit in the fires of Vlad back in '02.

The stories of the Giants going hard after Vlad came back to bite Sabey Sabes in the ass when he signed with Anaheim, instead. It looked like a loss for the Giants, even though they ended up neither gaining nor losing anything in the transaction.

Since, he has tended to temper rumors coming out of the Giants FO about ANY FAs they are looking at. With Panda, it does appear that they are making concerted efforts to get the word out that they are trying to retain his services.

Granted, the situations are a bit different. In '02, the Giants had not been to a WS since '89. Now the Giants are coming off 3 Championships in 5 years. Panda is a Giants FA, Vlad was simply a commodity on the market.

But Giants do appear to be going above and beyond to make sure EVERYONE knows they want Panda in a bad way. Very different from their established MO.

Makes sense considering it's the touchy feely stuff that will get him to come back if he does, since we aren't going to outbid the others we have to show him as much 'love' as we can.
