Not gonna hit for power I don't think.
You are probably right but he may hit a few and be strong enough to have gap power. His swings did not look like a punch and judy hitter.

Not thrilled with the Jenkins pick, but I am willing to wait until I hear some more about him before passing any kind of judgment.

Betts the catcher who was ranked at 28 has finally been selected by Tampa Bay.

Saw that. I'm not saying I disagree with Texas' second pick. I'd just like to know what they were thinking.

Would like to know if any team takes Matuella. But going to give up soon.

Everett and Matuella both still on the board. Only going through two rounds tonight, right?

At least they didn't do like the Mets and take a guy not ranked in the top 200. lol

I have always felt like the NBA and MLB draft are kinda MEH after the top 20 picks or so. You might find guys hidden lower that turn out to be good players, but they are so top heavy. That is unless they went to an international draft. That would make the draft a lot less top heavy.

I really just wanted to see who Texas took with their fourth overall pick. They took the best player available. Hard to complain about that.

Two of the best SS were off the board, so yeah they went smart. I hope he can develop and be a good MORP for them. Would be nice.

Me too. He's gonna need to clean up those mechanics a bit.

Here is Scott Lucas' report on Jenkins.

Per various reports, the 6'2", 165 pounder has excellent speed and the skills to stay in center field. Jenkins might develop some power as he fills out, but his path to the Majors will center on contact and reaching base by whatever means necessary. In a just world, he becomes a pretty good leadoff hitter. Committed to UNC-Wilmington, he doesn't appear to be a difficult sign. Baseball America, MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus ranked him in the lower 40s among draft-eligible prospects, while ESPN listed him 77th.

Among the outlets I've cited, almost everyone had him as a late first-rounder:

Baseball America (John Manuel) -- 29 (TOR)
ESPN (Keith Law) -- 29
MLB.com (Jonathan Mayo) -- 29
Fangraphs.com (Kiley McDaniel) -- 32 (PIT)
Baseball Prospectus (Chris Crawford) -- 35 (LOS)
MLB.com (Jim Callis) -- outside top 36

Here's MLB.com's video of Jenkins and of 1st-rounder Dillon Tate.

The draft resumes tomorrow at noon CDT.

Talking about the draft ... 2014 #3 overall ... Carlos Rodon.

Last year he pitched 3.0IP Arizona Rookie League, 9.1IP in A+ and 12.0IP in AAA. Comes back in 2015 throws another 10.0IP at AAA ... and gets promoted to CHW.

Total: 11 games, 34.1IP in his minor league career. He's starting in MLB only 10 months after being drafted.

MIL drafted him in the 16th round in 2011 ... bet they are torqued.

Two things based on a couple paragraphs in Grant's article I like about Tate is he is still developing and his work ethic.

He added a good 5 mph to his fastball, pushing it into the 93-97 mph range and developed a sweeping slider that can approach 90 mph. He has shown a changeup that Fagg said could be a “plus” pitch for him. Pitching as a starter this season after two years in the bullpen allowed him to show off the full repertoire.

“He’s a kid who was kind of a nobody coming out of high school, so to speak,” Fagg said. “He worked hard, in the weight room, throwing. He made himself a prospect. Going from undrafted out of high school to fourth pick in country speaks to his dedication and work ethic.”
