Yeah Austin Carr. The play by play guy gets a little excited but I can deal with him

He's horrible.
Says the same shit over and over...and offers very little as far as content.
The other guy they have is very good IMO.

The Cavs color guy is pretty annoying as well. I avoid watching teams who commentators are biased unless the Heat are playing them

WOW.
we see this quite differently

Cavs looked like a very smart, experienced composed team last night.

I mean- Thompson and Delly have taken huge steps from where they were at this time last year. Both guys can be depended on do to their jobs at a very good level- when at the beginning of last year it was FAR from guaranteed these guys could play at a high level.

Jefferson and Varejao are 2 great vets to have off that bench. Both are very smart. Both are very efficient. Neither misses assignments or makes bad plays. Both are great examples to younger guys with a great work ethic.

Jr Smith was a pleasant surprise last night. 9 points, 7 assists, 7 boards. Thats the thing with JR. on this Cavs team- he will pass- he will work on the boards. I wonder how many times on the Knicks he ever had 7 and 7 for rebounds and assists.

I just really like the mental frame of mind that the Cavs are in right now. It feels like a real team- even though there have been injuries and not much continuity yet- it seems people are on the same page- and at this time last year- with Waiters, etc. and then Varejao going down, and Delly struggling, and Love "fitting out" and Blatt adjusting and being upset with the media calling him a rookie coach etc.- there were a ton of road bumps and stuff to get through- LeBron clearing not liking the Cavs lack of a real center (before Mozgov)

This year it seems like everything is figured out. Everyone is on the same page. No one is panicking or rushing or worried. There is an urgency but it just feels more controlled.

Cavs will be fine.
Grizzlies will be fine.
Obviously they were way off their game last night.
Not taking anything away from what the Cavs did, but from the highlights I saw the Grizz looked like they were drugged.

hitting the 12 3 pointers is a definite improvement over how they played last year. That will be big if they can keep up a solid volume and 3 point %....right now there is no stat that proves a greater correlation to winning than 3 pt efficiency combined with at LEAST a league average volume.

I honestly dont see any team in todays NBA going very far unless they are a GOOD 3 pt shooting team. The Cavs got Memphis down last night- and against the Cavs- a GREAT 3 pt shooting team- a poor 3 pt shooting team just has no chance to mount a real comeback- and Memphis is apoor 3 pt shooting team.

The 3's the Heat took were OPEN shots for the most part that came from playing good offense.
Thats the key to our entire season.
We don't have the best 3 point shooters by any means, but if you let NBA players get good looks, most can hit a decent %.

And, yes, we are deep.
We can thrown small ball out there, tall ball, and also in between.
Spoelstra did a good job, even though I would have preferred to see Whiteside out there for more minutes, but we did go on our big run when he was out.

Grizzlies may have to make a move for a 3 point shooter -- Lee/Conley weren't pretty last night.

The only downside to leaguepass is hearing the annoying locals calling the game. The guys calling the Memphis Cavs game were almost unbearable, especially in the 2nd half. They spent more time explaining why every single call that went against Memphis was a bad call than they did anything else.

Hearing a game called by a neutral party is SO much better than hearing a game called by someone with a rooting interest. Even when they have the same interest as me its so annoying.

Minus 1 Tommy Point for you.

Austin Carr bro?

I believe he still has the record for points in a NCAA tourney game....1st overall pick outta ND....throw the hammer down? get that weak stuff outta here?

What does any of this have to do with whether or not he's a good commentator?

I was watching some of the Heat broadcast last night and their announcers have the most annoying voices.

you dont think the back ground an announcer has is relevant to how good he is? I sure put a lot of credibility in a former player like Austin Carr's words and analysis. The guy came out of ND when ND was one of THE schools in the country and was the #1 pick in the draft. Thats some pretty damn cool perspective to have- ESPECIALLY with Bron and Kyrie around.

Actually, their background has very little to do with how good they are. Many of the best commentators and play by play guys in the history of the game have never played.

If a guys background was that important, Magic Johnson should have been one of the greatest of all time. Instead, he sucked at it.

It has zero to do with it.
It's the same analogy as saying great players will make great coaches.

And as far as Carr and James, he's a tool.
He wouldn't say his name on the air when he left, but when he saw him at our arena pre game, he was slobbering on his dick like a lovesick puppy.

Wait you like Carr and hate the PBP guy?

No.
I can't stand listening to Carr.
He has the same few catch phrases, but offers very little useful insight as far as what's actually happening on the court IMO.

when your starting point guard is Jose Calderon- and your backup point guard is Langston Galloway- you probably suck. lol.

how are the knicks just so helpless? This is a league FILLED with good point guards and THATS who they throw out there? pathetic.

Jeff Teague is really good by the way....honestly after Horford I thought he was the Hawks best player last year in the ECF (not that the Hawks played well). Teague is just so freaking lightning quick...they seem to go away from him at times though for no reason

It sucks that he has so much talent but it goes wasted because he'll just stop being aggressive. It's maddening.

And some of them, are actually pretty good at it. Then others, like Austin Carr, suck. As usual, in the quoted post, what you said, has nothing to do with what you were supposedly responding to.

Why they got the job has nothing to do with whether or not they're actually any good at it.

You said all of the accolades you listed made him a good commentator. As usual, you were wrong and now are once again trying to move the goal post.

this is the most idiotic load of bullshit I have ever heard. I mean- are you guys seriously brain dead? you think COLOR GUYS IN THE NBA GET THE JOB BEAUSE OF THEIR ANNOUNCING SKILLS? holy shit. my head hurts. I have to take a deep breath, realize I am 2 months from having my doctorate. and move on.
