Winslow is one of those players where you actually have to watch the games to see his impact. A lot of the good things he does will not show up in the box score. So yeah if you just go on NBA.com and pull up Winslow game logs or his stats this season, you probably won't be impressed but those who actually watch the games knows the positive impact he is having on Miami.

PER is a pretty poor stat to look for with Winslow. Also defense is not only judged by steals and blocks. He is a terrific on the ball defender and guards the best perimeter player every game. Just about all of Miami best lineups includes Winslow. I acually saw something earlier this week where there was a Heat lineup with Winslow in it that had the best +/- in the league behind GSW small ball lineup.
Hes such a hard worker and a good kid. In that whole draft- after Towns it got a little muddled- and while there was a consensus that Winslow just didnt have the ceiling guys like Towns, Porzingis, Russell, Okafor, Mudiay etc. had- I think that Winslow - after Towns- was the guy I would feel the safest saying I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt this guy will be a bust.

Im telling you- he REALLY reminds me of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist....and little like Nic Batum as well. With Winslow you are going to get a GREAT work ethic, very very good athleticism (though I think MKG is a little better athlete). Winslow doesnt have a great shot- but his shot wasnt just totally broke like MKG's was when he came in.

Its really really hard to find a SF- especially one that is in the top half of the league at that position. I think Winslow will get there pretty quickly. It will be interesting to see just how good he can get. If he can develop his shooting he has a chance to be a very very good player. Its impossible to predict what he will eventually be 3-4-5 years down the line- but i think its pretty easy to say that he will at the very least be an impact defender.

I really like Winslow in the draft...he was a stupendous value where the Heat got him---

ha...tahts funny JR and Delly are in that lineup.....

If you look at JR's game logs- you can see that he REALLY was sucking bad until he took those 4 games off to get healthy- and ever since hes been back he has played pretty well.

JR in the first 4 games of the season shot under 30%, played bad D, - and left game 4 after 5 minutes because of injury--in those 4 games total he had 19 pts.....he sat out 4 games....the first 2 games back he was ok- but getting acclimated...scoring 7 pts, and then 8 pts....after that...

In the last 7 games he has scored double digits every game-

going for:

10 pts 9 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks on 4/14 shooting
15 pts, 2 steals on 6/10 shooting
18 pts, 2 boards on 7/12 shooting
15 pts, 5 assits on 5/18 shooting
26 pts on 10/16 shooting
15 pts 4 assists 2 steals on 6/13 shooting
11 pts 3 boards on 4/10 shooting.

The JR of the last 9 games is what the Cavs need- and what they thought they were getting when they brought him back. JR said in an interview that Cleveland was the first place that actually gave him a clean slate when he came in- and he appreciates that a lot.

Delly has been great thus far this year. What an improvement over last year. The Cavs unearthed- if not a diamond in the 2nd round- certainly some kind of nice gemstone. lol.

Thus far this year Delly has played 14 games- starting 3- and averagining about 27 minutes a night. Hes averaging 8 pts, 6 assists, about 2.5 boards a night on 44% FGA and 39% from 3. HE has a 4-1 turnover to assist ration. He has ZERO turnovers in the last 3 games he has played. He had a 13 assist - 0 turnover game.

How often do you think a backup- that plays AS GOOD of defense as Delly does- goes for 13 assists with 0 turnovers?

The Cavs finally unearthed a very good young cheap player.

Think of the good things this kid does for the Cavs
1. He has consistently shot about 40% from 3- the PRECISE type of shooting you want from a guard that plays with LeBron
2. He has consistently played VERY good defense. He is an above-average NBA perimeter defender.
3. TOUGHNESS. Who got in the other teams head more in the playoffs then Delly? The Bulls and Hawks got thrown off their game by Dellys tenacity. It inspires his team and helps set the tone for the Cavs to be a physical team.
4. He bringsa great work ethic to the team. He is a total team player that will fill whatever role the coach wants him to fill with no questions ask. Team first.
5. He keeps improving. He has developed that very nice- pick and roll with Tristan Thompson where he just feeds TT alley oops- or takes it to the rim and finishes with a very nice little floater he has worked on.

Now dont get me wrong- Delly is NEVER going to be an all star- He probably wont ever even be an everyday starter in the league on any team- but there is no doubt- he brings real value to the Cavs and has established himself as an important part of this Cavs team.

ME: just to be clear

you are refusing to take my bet about the Heat being in the top half of teams 3 pt shooting- even though you think they SAID you think they will be in the top 10

YOU: I did not see that bet. I do work and barely look at this thread unless I'm posting in here. I would gladly take it. All they have to do is shoot is 1% better than they did last year. Better shooting team this year and are a lock to shoot more than 33%. Last year they shot .339% from 3 and finished 24th. The Rockets shot .348% from 3 and finished 14th. Easy bet

oh yah-

and did find the official terms for our bet:

and just for the record.

I have 2 bets- one with bskballer and one with CLF dealing with Kyrie. If Kyrie plays a minute of even one game in November I win- If Kyrie does not play in a November game I lose.

If I win- the day after KYrie plays in a November game I will provide CLF and BSkballer an avatar they will use for 2 weeks

If I lose- On the 1st day of December I will start using an avatar provided by bskballer for the first two weeks of December, and an avatar of CLF's choosing for the 3rd and 4th weeks of December.

Just to make it official and make sure everyone sees it.

I BELIEVE bskballer and I made the bet first- so in the case that I love- he will pick my avatar from Dec. 1 to the 14th- and CLF will follow from the 15th to the 28th....does that sound right to you guys? just wanted to confirm.

Kevin Love 3rd in the NBA in rebounding -following only Drummond and Jordan.

Love is at about 20 pts, 12 boards, 2.5 assists per game, 40% from 3 point land....

I really enjoy watching Kevin Love play too. Its fun. Those outlet passes are awesome. Watching a big man with his assortment of post moves is awesome- and its insane to watch him do some McHale-esque post moves- and then move to the outside and shoot nearly 40% from 3....

Not only are Love, Bron and Kyrie make for a great basketball team- each one of those guys are just so much fun to watch.

And I gotta say- thus far- Tristan Thompson is playing some really great basketball too.

When I got home from dinner last night, Cavs game was in 4th qtr.
I was switching between that game and Heat game.
I'm pretty sure Love was benched the entire 4th in a very tight game.
Cavs were fortunate to win. Cats went ice cold the last 7-8 minutes.
James did very little.
J.R. was the difference.

Totally agree.
And as discussed on the Heat game threads, we all agree that Winslow would be a very capable starting option if Riley could somehow trade Deng for a scoring upgrade.

It was not coincedence the Cats were "ice cold". Blatt stuck with a defensive lineup that was kicking ass.

The Bobcats had been averaging 110 points a game at home. The Cavs held them to 90 last night. Love played the entire 3rd quarter- was of course scheduled to come in during the 4th- but the Cavs went on a run. Love even TOLD Blatt that he was ready- but to stick with the lineup he had.

14 points in the 4th quarter. The Cavs went with a small lineup that was almost all defense besides of course Bron---- Delly, JR, Jefferson, Bron, Thompson- and seriously- Jr Smith has actually been a pretty darn good defender- not only this year- but his whole tenure with the Cavs. Its amazing what happens when you actually give a guy some trust.

From JAson Lloyd's column-

"Kevin Love had a double-double by halftime. He scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds through three quarters. Yet apparently he approached David Blatt at some point during the fourth quarter and said he was ready if needed, but to keep rolling with the unit on the floor as long as it was working. As a result, Love watched 11 minutes, 58 seconds of the fourth while the Hornets made six baskets and shot 26 percent in the quarter."

I think asking a rookie to start and play 30 minutes a night is a rough deal. At some point I would think hes gonna hit the wall in a big way if he ended up starting and playing 30+ minutes a night.

And like I said- i dont doubt hes a good defender- but I sure expected him, with his athleticism to have more than 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks per game. NOT that missing those stats means you arent good at defense- but those of course are key defensive plays at times.

Why are we expecting a 6'6 player to avg a lot of blocks when he's constantly guarding guys bigger than him?

and bksballer- of course it is just November- but we are just under 20% through the NBA season- and right now the Heat rank 27th in the NBA with a 31.3% field goal percentage from beyond the arc.

There is of course a lot of time to change that but its certainly not easy.

And just as a side note- how unbelievable is it that Golden State is shooting 42.3% from 3? AS A TEAM. I mean- that is just freaking UNHEARD OF. just insane. I thought the Cavs at 38% was good....but...just damn.....thats totally insane.

just so frusterating after last weeks loss- but no matter what- no matter if the Bucks are 10-0 or 0-10....going TO Michigan- and absolutely DESTROYING loud mouth Harbaugh and the rest of that Team Up North is just awesome.

Absolutely great game.
