And when/ IF our secondary sucks this year, while we have a 1st round DT on the sideline on most plays besides 3rd down, some of us will continue to wonder why we didn't get a solid player to upgrade where we are the weakest instead of being even deeper at the strength of our Defense.

see below

Well SJ thats what separates the good teams from the average ones. And on the flip side you can't always have it all. Good teams/coaches make due with what they have. It's why Billicheat is in the playoffs every year.

Getting basically a free pass too the playoffs year after year because of the weak division the Pats play in has helped Billy boy some. IMHO. :suds:

eh I dunno he still has to win in the playoffs. Which they usually get to the Championship game or the SB. It's no easy task.

Rams Camp Report: Day 6

:suds:

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- A daily review of the hot topics coming out of St. Louis Rams training camp:
i

  • Thursday night's practice might as well have been the NFL equivalent of homecoming as the Rams had a bunch of familiar faces return to the field, including some coming back from injury who will be key to their success this season. Offensive tackle Jake Long, center Scott Wells and end William Hayes all got at least a few repetitions in team drills after being limited to some individual work to this point in camp. They didn't get a ton of work, but there were at least a few reps in which the Rams had their projected starting offensive line of (from left to right) Long, Greg Robinson, Wells, Rodger Saffold and Joe Barksdale together for the first time in this camp. Long and Wells did not participate in one-on-one pass-rush drills but Hayes did take some reps. Cornerback Trumaine Johnson also got back to work after sitting a few days with a tight hamstring. Offensive lineman Brandon Washington was also back to work. Defensive end Ethan Westbrooks did some work in the pass-rush drills as well after starting camp on the non-football injury list.

  • On the field, the action picked up where it left off Tuesday with the offense again starting to catch up to the defense now that shoulder pads are on. Quarterback Sam Bradford continued to take some shots down the field and find his connection. Early in team drills, he hit Stedman Bailey in stride about 40 yards downfield for what likely would have been a touchdown. He also continued to connect with Kenny Britt and Brian Quick on some deep balls and hit Tavon Austin on a deep ball while backed up at his 1-yard line. Austin's finest moment actually came on a deep comeback route in which Bradford threw high but Austin elevated and caught the pass out of frame. That's something we haven't seen much of from Austin since his arrival in St. Louis.

  • With shoulder pads on, the one-on-one pass-rush drills got rolling Thursday with some interesting matchups. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald continues to dominate and did what he wanted against center Tim Barnes on a couple of reps. If you felt the Earth shake tonight, don't worry it was just Robinson and tackle Michael Brockers colliding. Robinson did a nice job in a couple of matchups.

  • Also visiting St. Louis this week: an officiating crew which handled Thursday's practice and will spend time on points of emphasis with the team in the next couple of days through Saturday's scrimmage. And Blake Williams, former linebackers coach and son of defensive coordinator Gregg, who stopped in to see his dad and former team at work. He made a similar visit in the spring.

  • The Rams return to the Rams Park practice field Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET, which doubles as the next workout open to the public.

I agree with the first part. But why can't you have it all? And I'm not even asking for it all, I'm asking to draft wisely. Like work on your weakness, not add to your best asset on a team. And when we have a stud on the bench while we can't score? That to me is just idiotic.

As far as Bellicheat, the guy can draft pretty good, but he stockpiles draft picks like no other. Many teams should take notes on how the guy continues to stock pile picks.

Bellicheat gets a lot of respect for his drafting, but how many picks has he actually hit on in recent years?

I agree. He's more into hoarding picks, but that alone is a really good thing. Because eventually you will strike gold. Even the Rams hit on Zac30, Quinn, uhhhhhh Brockers, lol. Can't think of anymore great picks. Ogletree will be a good player in the NFL for years if he can stay healthy.

That's another position that we need depth at. LB

Don't know what there hard-on is for CB's under 5'10.

I'm giving the CBs a pass on last year, hopefully they fully rebound under new leadership. That defensive scheme last year was atrocious, lining up 10 yards off the WR.

Boy I hope so. I went back and looked at the Patriots draft since 2012. Nobody relevant except for Donte Hightower who was a no-brainer, but still he's a beast.

Was looking at the 2013 draft where we traded the Bears our 2nd round pick and they took Alshon Jeffrey. We took Quick with the 1st pick of the 2nd round, then Pead later in the 2nd.

Don't know if I can let that go until we start scoring some flipping TDs!! Just makes me want to sob on some hot girls boobs.

SJ76, you are on a role. Sobbing on some hot girls bewbs! Seriously? You can add Laurinaitus to the list you had in the OP. Saffold is coming around at guard but that was a sort of lucked out that Boudreau created.

Well I don't think Donald will be on the bench. You have to remember he's a rookie he's gonna have some growing pains anyways so of course they're not gonna play him full time. Well of course you always strive to have it all. Take the Seachickens......can you really tell me Sherman which was a 6th round pick was going to turn into the player he's become? No.
What if quick turns into a monster this year? What if EJ gains turns out to be the next great CB? I just say wait to see how this year turns out man and then we can pass judgement.

Stayed in the same hotel as Rams rookies Thursday night. Ran into Aaron Donald as he came out of the elevator in the morning. Dude amazed my with his lack of height. I knew how tall he is but seeing is person how wide he is at that height was unique. Dude looks like a freak though.

Blue, he got his foot stepped on in practice. We had better address the MLB position sooner rather than later because Laurinaitus is entering into that window where injuries start to become more frequent.

Read how Pittsburgh's rookie DT Stephon Tuitt (2nd rounder) is playing lights out and will be one of the steals of the 2014 draft. And that DT has no lack of height or size.

I just don't get how some of these players drop so much on draft day. That dude is a beast.

Here is a recent article by ESPN suggesting some of the possibilities into the final roster for the 2014-2015 sason.

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Since it's officially a game week -- albeit a preseason game -- the St. Louis Rams released their first unofficial depth chart of the season Monday afternoon.

The operative word here is unofficial, and that must be kept in mind with all parts of what I'm about to write here. Some of the following seem to match up with what the Rams are doing on the practice field and some of it doesn't. Either way, take it with the proper dose of salt knowing that there are a few things that always factor in.

For example, in most cases, veterans or returning players get the benefit of the doubt over rookies. Some rookies may be playing more with the first or second team than they are listed here, but for now, they are still being asked to earn promotions.

With all of that said, here are a few things that stood out on the Rams' first unofficial depth chart of the 2014 season:

• While the vast majority of the starter spots are accounted for, wide receiver was one place where shuffling seemed possible, if not likely. Sure enough, there's a different look there than what was expected entering camp. Kenny Britt and Tavon Austin are listed as the starters with Brian Quick and Stedman Bailey as the second-teamers. This mostly lines up with how reps are divvied up on the practice field right now, and those four have been the team's best wideouts in this camp. Chris Givens, who was once presumed a starter, is now listed as part of the third team along with Austin Pettis. While this is unofficial, this is one spot where it seems there's truth in advertising.

• The offensive line is as expected with Greg Robinson listed as the starting left guard along with Jake Long at left tackle, Scott Wells at center, Rodger Saffold at right guard and Joe Barksdale at right tackle. No surprises there. The depth behind that group will be a more interesting tale. Mike Person is listed as second team at left guard, a position he's been playing in camp after working mostly at tackle. The Rams have plenty to sort out here, and it's also worth noting that Tim Barnes is the No. 2 center with Barrett Jones at No. 3 right now.

• There doesn't appear to be any real competition to Zac Stacy for the starting running back job. The real battle is how things will shake out behind him. Right now, Benny Cunningham is listed second with Isaiah Pead and Chase Reynolds third and Tre Mason and Trey Watts fourth. Stacy and Cunningham have certainly looked like the top two. Mason behind Pead and Reynolds seems to be one of those veterans over rookie spots mentioned earlier.

• The quarterback group offers another veteran over rookie exception with Austin Davis listed third and rookie Garrett Gilbert fourth. Gilbert has been getting more reps than Davis on a consistent basis and even taken reps with the second team. Barring some major changes, Gilbert is the likely third quarterback, assuming the Rams keep one.

• The defense offers little in the way of surprises. The starting 11 is as expected unless you thought Aaron Donald would be listed as a starter. The rookie is listed as second team behind Michael Brockers but none of that matters much with the defensive line anyway. Their top eight should all play and play quite a bit.

• The battle for backup spots at linebacker and in the secondary has a long way to go to gain clarity. For what it's worth, Brandon McGee and E.J. Gaines are listed as the primary backups at cornerback with Cody Davis and Maurice Alexander in backup roles at safety. Phillip Steward, Daren Bates and Ray-Ray Armstrong are the three backup linebackers. One interesting note is that Lamarcus Joyner is listed as the No. 3 free safety rather than a cornerback. But Joyner is getting most of his work as the nickel corner. Yet another example of why the term unofficial is important when going through exercises such as these.

• The Rams open the preseason Friday night against New Orleans at the Edward Jones Dome, offering all players on the depth chart a prime opportunity to change their standing for next week.
