He's still playing in Sweden, FWIW.

To be fair, there were a lot of bad picks in that draft. Angelo Esposito, anyone? Can anyone tell me where Alex Plante is these days? How about that 4th overall Thomas Hickey?
Alex Plante? The friendly, huggable giant? He be done! The Oilers finally gave up on him. So much man for nothing! I hear he's putting in time in that Mecca of hockey known as Austria. One of many Kevin Lowe's genius picks.

As artfully put by Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch:

The two sides were believed to be at least $3 million apart per season on a two-year deal at that point, and it doesn't appear that much progress has been made.

Asked this weekend if they were still far apart, one of the interested parties responded via text: "Hectares."

For those metric users, that's 10,000 square meters. For non-metric users, that's 2.47 acres. For those non-math types, that's a big ol' gap.

Yay! Twatwaffle got a text from someone and wrote and article!

Here's how I imagine the negotiations going:
Agent: We want 10 years.
JK: No
Agent: 8?
JK: No
Agent: Okay, 5?
JK: No. 2
Agent: Ummmm... 3?
JK. No. 2. At 4.5m.
Agent: We'll sign an offer sheet somewhere.
JK: Go ahead. Here are the 5 teams that *can* sign one.
Agent: *Walks away in a huff*

*Two weeks pass - no offer sheet*

Agent: Okay, 3 years at 7m.
JK: No. Two.
Agent: You drive a hard bargain.
JK: Yes.

*A week passes*

Agent. Okay, we'll go with two years. 8.5m each.
JK: No
Agent: 2 at 8m
JK: No
Agent: 2 at 7.5
JK: ...
Agent: Hello?

And here we are.

Well, eventually hockey is going to be played again, and Columbus is going to realize pretty fast that they are a much better team with RyJo than without him. And then the money comes pretty fast.

Thomas Hickey was toiling for a while but now he's been a steady d-man for the Isles as of late
Yes he was buried in the Kings organization behind DD, Willie M, Jack Johnson Matt G and Alec Martinez couldn't crack their top 6 was placed on waivers and the Isles have gotten a pretty good 2nd pairing d-man for ... nothing

Yep -nice find by Snow. He's been getting better and better out there too. He's mostly been paired with Viznovsky (when healthy) and sees some significant minutes. The offensive upside hasn't come out yet but he's been a very reliable defensemen for the Isles.

Can't knock the drafting team (since they've won 2 Cups recently), but that was a waste of a 4th overall pick.

So we should be expecting Garth to flip him for some magic beans shortly?

I hope not, if there's one thing teams need it's defensive depth. Until Reinhart and Pullock are full time NHLers, Hickey will likely be on the team.

Now.....of course I could be eating my shoe in two months when he's traded....until then though...

Garth Snow will trade you his next available first round pick for that shoe.

Cmon DL - that was a lay up. I can't believe you didn't go the Mad Mike Milbury route with the shoe comment. Missed opportunity!

FYI....I don't think we have any more first rounders until 2019:gaah:

Wasn't that a skate? Milbury only dabbles in apparel that can kill.
