Chrispozz, this is the first year I am actually watching the combine and I see what you were taking about earlier. Going by times alone doesn't show much at all. Watching these guys run, see how smooth they are or are not, you can see which ones are natural and athletic and the ones are laboring to get through it.

The oline men yesterday really showed me this. The guys were doing Mike Solari's drill, and only a couple guys looked athletic. Bringing their knees up, keeping their eyes up, and so on. Can't believe I have never watched this before.

Some notable 40 times that I watched this morning:

Kelvin Benjamin 4.53
Martavis Bryant 4.34
John Brown 4.30
Odell Beckham 4.31
Brandin Cooks 4.30 and 4.30 on both attempts (damn, he's now a sure fire 1st rounder)
Mike Evans 4.47
Johnny Manziel 4.56
Bruce Ellington 4.31

These are all unofficial

Some of these unofficial WR 40 times are insane. Beckham, Cooks, and Bryant made themselves some money today. Mike Evans will get drafted early, but we already knew that.

Quincy Enunwa 4.4 flat. He's the best WR in the draft no one knows about.

Stop for a bit. Every single year people freak out over the unofficial 40s with the skill positions and DBs and then they are adjusted and they end up looking a bit different.

Another thing that's making me damn tired are the draft people that are a bit too overly excited about saying (insert position here) is the best group of (insert position here) that they've seen in 10, 15, 25 years.

I don't mind SOME people having an opinion if they think a position is as good as ever, but it seems like they go to that specific phrase when they think it's a strong group of (insert position here). I wish they'd temper the excitement a bit because it tires that phrase out for others when they use it far less often. I hear it SO dang much when I talk to people.

Yup, also tired of the unoffical times looking so good every year then being adjusted sometimes over .1 seconds. The whole time they are so excited about the "great time" only to find out that it was not even close to what he really ran.

While I'm ranting. Some may have saw my long rant in past years and again yesterday about how I don't really care for most people's opinions on combine times/workouts unless they WATCHED it with their own two eyes and saw how it LOOKED.

Speaking as a guy who is in the draft life myself. One thing I didn't include in that rant yesterday is the fact that I think there's something to be said for players who can step up to the line without a lot of extracurricular movements beforehand, come out of their transition cleanly, accelerate smoothly, and finish strong and clean.

All of that gets into the whole "manufactured speed" vs. "natural speed" debate I brought up before but I just wanted to point that out, too. As these guys are learning how to run fast you see WAY more extracurricular junk than you used to and it can make you wonder about a guy a little bit more when you see certain things like that.

He is dominating on the gauntlet drill too. Kid is special. Can play in the slot and on the outside.

The combine has a big problem on their hands with this simul-cam and have since the year they brought it in to use. Year in and year out shows simul-cam is showing player X finish ahead of player Y but then you go to the "NFL Network official times" and it actually shows player Y finishing with a better time than player X. And in some cases, two years ago specifically was the year where it was REALLY bad, it's showing a significant gap between SEVERAL players who finished quite close in their timing.

NFL Network made a big deal about it two years ago and questioned on air the problem they were having but ever since they haven't made a mention of it again that I've seen. Quite possibly because it's become such a hit because it makes things VISUAL for fans, which makes it fun for them, so I'm sure they want to continue to use it, but they have a big problem on their hands because their camera and the times aren't in-sync with each other a lot of the time.

Who's your top 4 for the WR position this year?

Generally speaking (not team specific):

Watkins (easily #1)

gap

Lee

smaller gap

Beckham Jr.
Benjamin

I'm in the process of getting to see more games of Cooks and talking to some other people closer to his situation than me, but he could enter into that picture after I get the chance to focus on him a bit more.
