I am not so sure how valid the JJ point system is anymore now the rookie payscale is so structured.

It has almost been dead on with a lot of trades and way off with some. Just as a barometer it works well.

Just two trades were way off Oak-Mia.... Dal-SF.... every single other trade was less than 20 pts and most within 7 pts

I went through all of last years trades and all but two matched up within 20 pts. Detroits trade with Seattle for VanNoy was advantage Seattle by 12 points. Everyone keeps saying JJ's system is not in use and I proved it by going thru 8 1st and 2nd rd trades for 2013.

The only 2 that didn't match up were that crazy, stupid, trade Oakland did with Miami and Dallas' trade with SF (that one fell a 4th rd'er short, 70 points which is a lot). All the other trades matched up.

Just because many may still be using it does not mean it is still valid. There are a lot of sheep in the world.

SF just keeps on killing this draft and Seattle's draft is highly questionable reaching for an OT ranked #180 and a WR ranked #74 (Paul Richardson) that they took with our #45

I just happen to like the way the 49ers continue to add to their stregnths- their RB core. If there is a guy available to them, they will take him. It doesn't even seem like Hyde would have a roster spot but they took him. They have took some WRs too and they still draft them.

That's the Center Detroit should have taken at our original 4th spot #111 (Russell Bodine, brought him in for a private workout), that Seattle got from us and now traded to Cincy. Could have drafted someone with better value in Det's 3rd round, not that Swanson wasn't a good pick. I just think they reached on Swanson, maybe even traded down in the 3rd to pick up another 5th rd and still get Swanson.

I agree about the reach but I think Swanson is a better center and Bodine is a better guard.

We really don't know that Swanson was a reach, though. The experts get it pretty good through the first 2 rounds, but they start to fade in the 3rd and especially the 4th round. Guys start jumping multiple rounds up on the "expert's" boards and other guys on the expert's boards fall multiple rounds.

What that tells me is the teams have guys ranked a bit differently than the analysts.

you are probably right, Old Lion. I just expected Swanson to be country-strong, threw up 20 reps of 225, where Bodine was 32 reps. Both have 4 yrs. and 3 yrs full-time experience at Center and Swanson's SEC Play versus Bodine's ACC play may be advantage Swanson. Bodine doesn't waist-bend and Lunge like Swanson does, has quicker feet, plays angrier, gets to second level on run plays easier-quicker, more violent hands. JMO

I loved the pick for one reason only. It tells me Mayhew still has the long term in mind. I doubt Swanson will be used much this year.

I think you are spot on there. Doesn't that type make for a better guard than center though?

I am not crazy about the bad habits Swanson has but that can be corrected. You need to have a certain head for being a center and I think he has it. Especially for a pass first team.

Bodine was ranked #1 C until Marcus martin entered draft. then Richburg took over #2 spot. Richburg had a very difficult time keeping weight on, playing at 298 lbs, and it was a known fact he struggled. Kind of like Raiola. But, Richburg gained 6 lbs to get to 304. Richburg has the smarts over anyone, from what I read. I watched in a game against Bama and held his own expect bigger stronger Dt's would bull-rush him, put him on the ground. had me worry if he could anchor

Anybody have some good prospects that I can add to my running list there? I'm slowly picking guys off, and I'd like to keep adding guys to it to see how far some of the guys we like slide, or how soon they get picked...
