I love the peanut gallery at ESPN. They demand we trade players like Beltre to rebuild, so when I ask which specific prospects to target I get zero coherent responses back. If you want to rebuild, then shouldn't you have a cursory knowledge of the available market? Simply stating that "we aren't going to contend in 2015 anyway" is not a good enough reason to trade Adrian Beltre. Oh and then my favorite is the Jerry Jones comparisons. As if the Rangers are run anything like the Cowboys. If they were JD would have resigned every player for well over their value. But guys like Larry Carvell will continue to whine about them not being kept, so I ask again, how is that like Jerry Jones?

Basically it was a gamble as lots of baseball decisions can be and it turned out that taking a chance on MM performing and trying to recoup a draft pick ended up being a bad move, especially after we have seen what NC has done so far this season. As I have said previously Cruz wanted to play in the outfield but as long as he was a paid player in the organization he would have done what was asked and played the role he was needed in. Hindsight shouldn't play into the fact that injuries happen and the team didn't have much outfield depth to begin with, so Cruz could have conceivably seen some significant OF time. Engel Beltre didn't show much in the Spring and Adduci, though he had a decent Spring hadn't performed much at the ML level. Choice had a great Spring but as we have seen that doesn't translate to an entire season. While I think you are presumably correct on the financial considerations I believe there were other moves that could have been made to ensure there was a spot to bring in a proven player vs relying on the other scenarios. Ramble I know

Sorry I went to bed last night after I posted that and just saw this now.

Not Rambling at all. I agree on all points. We did gamble a lot on our OF depth and DH this season. In hindsight of all of this it might have been much better to overpay for Cruz on last seasons market and maybe lock him up for another 2-3 seasons rather than lock up Choo for 7.

One of the things mentioned on the interview that I have also brought up on here are the Choo signing is we potentially will have too many DH's on the team in the near future in both Choo and Fielder. Signing Nelly for a short term would have helped avoid this. Granted, then you would need a lead hitter and we would have needed onebut Choo really hasn't been much of one for those of late either. I'm really hoping he will bounce back next year. I think it would be in our best interest to go ahead and DL him for a little while too. Haha, now I am rambling. Either way, what is done is done. I get why they took the risk, it isn't one I would have taken but honestly pitching has been our biggest issue overall and I doubt it would have made any difference

At this point I am just hoping Prince can come back from the surgery and still play at a high level. That is going to have a huge impact on this teams future. If he can't, we might end up having to rebuild and his contract could end up being like Arod's all over again.

Some of you watching the game might appreciate this comment about Buck and Fox sports coverage.

The worst part of Fox’s coverage–and there’s so much to choose from–is the network’s nonchalant policy toward player substitutions. I know it would have taken 15 seconds away from the 482nd Jeter story of the night, but it’s imperative that the viewers know who is on the field at any given moment. Yet, here’s Buck last night saying stuff like, “Ground ball to Castro, oh yeah, he entered the game in the seventh inning.”
Buck has ONE job: to describe the action on the field. And that includes the important yet incredibly easy process of telling us what players are in the game. Even pinch hitters were often ignored because Buck or Rosenthal was conducting a worthless interview during the game. Then we weren’t told if the PHs staying in the game to play the field, and if they were, what position they were playing.

Patton Scouting Report:

Prior to the 2013 season, it was difficult to think of Spencer Patton as someone who could make an impact upon the Kansas City Royals. A 24th round draft pick in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft, Patton struggled over his first two seasons in professional baseball, putting together a 3-8 record with a 5.12 ERA and a 1.500 WHiP for the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League. While Patton was able to strike out 13 batters per nine innings, he was fairly old for the level and had trouble with his command. Patton looked intriguing, but seemed to be a long shot at having a major league career.
Then, last season, things changed for Patton. Promoted to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, Patton was used almost exclusively as a reliever. With that change to the bullpen, Patton produced what was easily his best season in the Royals system, putting together a 5-2 record with a 1.96 ERA and a 1.073 WHiP, striking out 76 batters in 64.1 innings of work. That effort earned Patton a much deserved promotion to Northwest Arkansas, where he struck out 27 of the 69 batters he faced.
This season, as the primary closer for the Omaha Storm Chasers, Spencer Patton has continued to build on his success from last year. Thus far, Patton has actually been even better, posting a 0.83 ERA and a 0.738 WHiP while striking out 24 batters in 21.2 innings of work. Although his strikeout numbers have decreased, Patton has improved his command, walking only 2.9 batters per nine innings. Even more impressively, Patton has only allowed nine hits this year, holding the opposition to a .125/.213/.222 batting line.

With those results, one would likely expect Patton to be firing the ball in the upper 90′s. Instead, Patton is typically in the 90 to 93 MPH range with his fastball, mixing in a slider and a change. According to his scouting report from when he was drafted, Patton has a delivery that makes it difficult for opposing hitters to pick up the ball. As his fastball appears to b more explosive than it actually is, Patton has been able to attack opposing hitters with great success.
Should Spencer Patton continue to perform at this level, he could force the Royals to find a spot for him on the major league roster.

They basically just gave away Frasor for nothing. I know he's just a so-so rental pitcher near the end of his career, but I would have thought he was worth more than a former 24th round AAA innings eater who doesn't have big upside. We literally traded Frasor for a warm body for the AAA roster. I know he's had a few good seasons as a reliever, but so did Cory Burns.
