Sounds like a player development problem.

Not at all. Mack is one of the top 5 winningest coaches in the BCS era. Plain and simple, some of these guys just can't adjust to playing D1 ball. Happens everywhere.

Yeah, I here you. We'll agree to disagree. For my SEC sleeper, I'm going with AU. The last time Malzahn was running the AU offense, he raped through the SEC defenses with ease. With him as HC, I think AU might actually get back to winning 8-9 games this year. They have 4 cupcakes in OOC (all at home), then I see them beating Arky, Mrs State, Ole Miss & Tennessee and then possibly wining their bowl game. Hell, they only play 4 road games, the schedule is in their favor.

AU never raped defenses with ease, and the only time Malzahn had good offenses is when he had elite QB's that just about anyone could have done well with.

2010 was not his last year, 2011 was. But in 2010, the final scores of games they won:

Mississippi St - 3 point win, 17-14
Clemson - 3 point win, 27-24
Kentucky - 3 point win, 37-34
LSU - 7 point win, 24-17
Alabama - 1 point win, 28-27
Oregon - 3 point win, 22-19

In 2011, after Cam, they went 8-5.

Lost to Clemson 24-28
Lost to Arkansas 14-38
Lost to LSU 10-45
Lost to Georgia 7-45
Lost to Alabama 14-42

They were horrible.

Oh, and in 2009? Basically the same thing, but a little better. 8-5. 23,14,10,24,21 is how many points they scored in their losses.

You call that raping SEC defenses with ease?

Actually that is an overblown meme. The amount of former Texas players in the NFL speaks for itself. I have thought it is more about roster management. Best example is not taking a QB the yr before Garrett Gilbert came. Basically betting the programs future on one QBs development. The other factor is utilization. Those are issues that come up when your head coach does not have a clear philosophy.

Yeah, but out of those top recruiting classes, maybe 3-5 guys actually pan out and live up to the hype.

You have that so totally backwards..........it's not the talent that wins you games, it's how the talent is developed and utilized.

And using that logic, Bo Pelini must be a miracle worker beings as he is winning 10 games a season and making a Conference Championship game 2 out of every 3 seasons.......doing it all with 2 and 3 star players.

Vandy,......Franklin kicks ass. Top 15.

Vandy will no longer be the team that SEC schools pencil in as a W anymore.
They are starting to get top 20 recruiting classes and have a good head coach.
I forsee them becoming "South Carolina" good.

Here's a sleeper, I actually think Penn State will cause some damage this year. They play most of the big names in the big ten this year (Neb, Wisc, OSU and Mich) and I think they could easily take out a couple of them. They could ruin the big ten title hopes of a team or two.

If Hackenberg comes in and is the real deal, I'd agree with you. They return a 1000 yard rusher and 1000 yard receiver. Not many teams in the country can say that.

I'm going to say Vandy. I don't think they'll suddenly be the top 1-2 of the SEC, but there'll be some tough chewing for the rest of us while we play them. I don't know how James Franklin started recruiting talent there, but it's going to take effect and soon.

We have a correct joke pick on Florida State and shit talk on Auburn not even being the 2nd best team in Alabama. Great thread.

I'm gonna go with Auburn, and believe me I fucking hate saying that, but I believe they will be much improved this year.

Chizik was a very shitty head coach, the guy had players out of position, unconditioned, and just very badly coached. And talent is NOT the problem at Auburn, they just need coaching. I believe this new coaching staff will have the players in their correct positions, they will have them properly conditioned, and they will have them doing literally everything better than they did it last season.

I'm not gonna sit here and predict Auburn to go from 3-9 to winning 10 games, because they have to play Alabama, LSU, UGA, and A&M, pretty close to 4 guaranteed losses, but I believe they will be much improved and make a bowl game.

WELL FUCKING DONE RT14-0

I still stand by my Vandy for a sleeper too. They finished the regular season 8-4 with wins over UF, UGA, and UT
