don't really want Bourn for a lot of reasons but how are you so sure that Gentry and Martin together are going to do better than him?

No where did I say better than him, I'm saying whatever Bourn provides doesn't justify paying him that money AND giving up a draft pick, when Gentry and Martin will probably provide comparable value

until i see gentry and martin provide comparative value i'll reserve judgement on that way of thinking but it doesn't mean that i'm willing to pay or give up a draft choice either.

If they keep them fairly restricted to platoon matchups, I have no doubts, given a similar number of plate appearances, that Martin and gentry will come close to Bourn's production

Looks like the D-Backs are looking to package Ahmed with a pitcher to Detroit for Rick Porcello

Check Gentry's numbers from last year.

Check for the last 3 years. He hits right handers at around .275 so I'd give him the job full time and it's his to lose. He covers CF with the best of them.

I saw Martin in San Diego in person and on TV. Obviously a very small sample but in both cases he looked way over matched by MLB pitching and I think it was against right handed pitching. He may need more seasoning in AAA.

He has nothing left to prove in AAA. he deserves his shot and we need to see what we have in him.

It would help if he'd actually gotten consistent playing time. Coming off the bench twice a week won't make anybody look good. Look at the difference in Olt's plate appearances when he first got called up and after wash glued him to the bench for a couple weeks.

I see what you're saying but 95 games at AAA isn't a whole lot. He's 24. Has he done well, yes. Maybe he has nothing else to prove at AAA but Gentry is 29 and deserves his shot too as an every day player.

Martina's ceiling is higher than Gentry. Look, I love gentry, but a Gentry/Martin platoon gives us the best chance at putting the best team on the field and giving us the most value. We'll never know if Martin can be a star if we don't give him a shot.

i did and they were very good but i'm totally unimpressed with Martin's big league numbers so combined i'm not ready to anoint them combined better than Bourn. i still don't want Bourn but i'm allowed to be concerned about what Gentry & Martin may or may not do this coming season

Ever heard of small sample sizes. Martin hasn't been given a chance.
