Robert Woods - WR - Bills Rookie

Robert Woods and T.J. Graham are the Bills' starting receivers for Sunday's preseason opener.

It's not a surprise, but confirmation that Woods has a firm grip on starting duties opposite Stevie Johnson. Graham is in the driver's seat for No. 3 duties, running ahead of Marquise Goodwin and Da'Rick Rogers. Related: T.J. GrahamSource: buffalobills.com

I think safety is indeed his best position. Not happy the Cards figured this out so early in the process:

Tyrann Mathieu - DB - Cardinals

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians says rookie DB Tyrann Mathieu is "no doubt" big enough to play free safety full time.

Mathieu is only 5-foot-9 and 186 pounds. "No doubt," Arians said. "He plays bigger than he is and plays faster than he is." In Arizona's preseason opener, Mathieu registered a 12-yard sack, broke up a pass with a big hit, and returned a punt 24 yards. ESPN's Adam Schefter stated Tuesday that Mathieu "keeps making plays and right now looks to be one of the steals of the draft."

Aaron Dobson - WR - Patriots

ESPN Boston notes that second-round WR Aaron Dobson has "turned things around after a less-than-smooth beginning in the spring."

Dobson has "made himself more into a factor in training camp." He remains in a battle with impressive undrafted rookie Kenbrell Thompkins for the starting X receiver job. Dobson appears to be trailing slightly right now after playing behind Thompkins in the preseason opener.

About Tyrann Mathieu:

He is have a great camp so far and is about to make his 1st start. He is doing great on D and on Special teams. This is one player that I thought we should of went after in the draft. He was a 1st rd talent before his troubles. i thought he would be a great fit for Harbaugh to coach and get him on the right track. Overall he looks like he might be a steal for Arizona.

What did you guys think of him during draft time?

I'll just say I wouldn't trade any of the guys the Niners drafted in the first 3 rounds for Tyrann Mathieu.

Steal of the draft? C'mon shouldn't we at least play a regular season game?

Phillip Thomas has a lisfranc injury and is done for the season. I was hoping to get to see the starting tandem of him and Rambo. Two safeties I wanted during the draft.

Watching the Eagles - Panthers game. Matt Barkley does not look impressive against the scrubs in the 4th quarter (sorry Bingo).

Hopefully they're keeping him hospitalized as a precautionary measure, and it's not because it's serious. Maybe there's swelling or something causing breathing problems and they don't want to take a chance. Can't imagine that being very fun for the guy.

Dee Milliner - DB - Jets

Jets coach Rex Ryan called out first-round CB Dee Milliner's play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars.

"I didn’t like the way we competed and challenged on the outside," Ryan said. "When we call on (Milliner), I want him to get up there. Let’s go. Let’s play." The Jets had the indignity of getting carved up by Blaine Gabbert. It's just a reminder that cornerback is one of the most difficult positions for a rookie to learn, and that Milliner's play might not light up the world early in the season.

Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Vikings

OC Bill Musgrave noted that first-round WR Cordarrelle Patterson has been on point with his assignments.

The freakishly talented yet raw Patterson appears to be developing even faster than expected. Through two preseason games, he's recorded six catches for 73 yards despite playing just 52 snaps. "The quarterbacks want to know that guys are going to be dependable, be at the right depth, come out at the right angle and he was that way. ... And quarterbacks are starting to trust him," Musgrave said.

Le'Veon Bell - RB - Steelers

Le'Veon Bell will undergo an MRI on his right foot Tuesday.

The initial diagnosis on Bell was a mid-foot sprain. As ESPN's Adam Schefter notes, this injury sometimes turns into a Lisfranc fracture -- an injury that would cripple the second-round rookie's season. For now, all the Steelers can do is hold their breath. Bell's projected backup, Isaac Redman, produced 410 yards on 110 carries (3.72 YPC) and lost three fumbles last year.

Manti Te'o - LB - Chargers

Chargers rookie ILB Manti Te'o (foot) was spotted without a walking boot Monday.

It's the first sign of tangible progress on Te'o since he went down on August 8. He was rehabbing his sprained right foot on the side of practice Monday. Te'o appears to be on track to start next to Donald Butler come Week 1.

Markus Wheaton - WR - Steelers

Steelers rookie Markus Wheaton caught three balls for 52 yards in Monday night's preseason game against the Redskins.

The highlight was a 45-yard bomb down the right sideline, burning Washington CB Chase Minnifield. Wheaton is still running with the twos -- he's behind Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown, and Jerricho Cotchery -- but the Steelers are going to have to get him into the lineup sooner rather than later. Wheaton is explosive, tough, and often looks like the fastest player on the field.

Da'Rick Rogers - WR - Bills

WGR 550 Buffalo doesn't project undrafted WR Da'Rick Rogers to make the Bills' final roster.

Beat writer Joe Buscaglia gives Chris Hogan and Brad Smith the final two receiver spots behind Stevie Johnson, T.J. Graham, Robert Woods, and Marquise Goodwin. Hogan has reportedly been far more consistent, and Smith has special teams value to go along with his veteran presence. Rogers hasn't stood out much this summer after shining in the spring, but he'll be claimed off waivers if the Bills end up cutting him. He has too much natural talent.

Sharrif Floyd - DL - Vikings

Vikings rookie DT Sharrif Floyd underwent a "minor" left knee scope Monday, but the team expects him back by Week 1.

An initial MRI showed no structural damage, but Floyd was still having problems with the left knee and opted for the scope. He's not being counted on as a starter, anyway, so the missed camp reps aren't especially significant. The No. 23 overall pick will rotate in behind Kevin Williams at three technique.

Geno Smith - QB - Jets

Geno Smith will start Saturday's third preseason game barring a setback with his sprained ankle this week.

The Jets' quarterback battle rages on. Smith sat out last week's exhibition game against the Jaguars, watching a largely ineffective Mark Sanchez go 13-of-23 for 165 yards with one touchdown and one interception. If the rookie can operate the first-team offense well against the Giants this week, he has a realistic shot to start come Week 1. Smith was 6-of-7 for 47 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the preseason opener.

Barkevious Mingo - LB - Browns

Browns coach Rob Chudzinski admits "nobody really knows" when OLB Barkevious Mingo (bruised lung) will return.

"It's just how his body is going to heal," Chudzinski said. A source tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer the Browns expect Mingo back in a "week or two," but it's clear they don't feel comfortable putting that on the record. For the time being, Mingo should be considered questionable for Week 1.
