Fisher impressed with rookie WR Quick
by Ron Clements, CBSSports.com

Coach Jeff Fisher has been impressed with rookie WR Brian Quick. “He’s not intimidated by anything, he just needs to practice,” Fisher said. Quick added that he’s now moving on the field instinctually instead of thinking about where he needs to be as he was when the team first began OTAs.

RB Jackson says Quick will be factor but has a long way to go
by Ron Clements, CBSSports.com

RB Steven Jackson said rookie WR Brian Quick has a long way to go to become an elite receiver but that the team will rely on Quick to be a factor this season. Quick later added that his biggest adjustment from Appalachian State to the NFL will be learning a playbook, something he didn’t have to do in college.

Kirkpatrick's shot at starting
8:48AM ET
Cincinnati Bengals

For any first-round draft pick, the goal for both the player and his new team is typically to get him involved in a significant role as soon as possible. However, some players are brought along with a more long-term plan in mind -- given the team's depth at the particular position -- and that appears to be the case with Cincinnati Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick.

Part of the reason why the Bengals may not start Kirkpatrick right away is the adjustment from Alabama's defense to what Cincy runs. "I never backpedaled," the CB explained, according to Bengals.com. "We were always press man, Cover 2. It was never just sit there and reading the receiver on his route. It was something new."

We'll get a better sense of how Kirkpatrick fits in to the team's depth at CB during training camp, but as ESPN AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley notes, there's no need for the team to rush him into the starting lineup as a rookie:

Plenty of other starting options on the roster

"If Kirkpatrick follows the path of two recent Bengals' first-round cornerbacks, he won't be asked to start immediately. Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall combined to make three starts in their first seven games. The Bengals don't have to rush Kirkpatrick after they added former first-round picks Adam Jones, Terence Newman and Jason Allen this offseason."

Latest on Cincy's No. 2 WR battle
9:33AM ET
Cincinnati Bengals

As the Cincinnati Bengals head their separate ways for a few weeks prior to training camp, there remain some lingering questions to ponder after they went through their OTA and minicamp program. Perhaps the most important -- for those reading these posts for fantasy football research, at least -- is regarding the unresolved situation at the No. 2 WR slot.

Armon Binns, Mohamed Sanu, Ryan Whalen and Brandon Tate are the top four competitors for the spot, and after minicamp concluded, it appears that Tate is the front-runner for the role, in the opinion of Jay Morrison of the Dayton Daily News.

Ultimately, the Bengals could decide to go with a rotation of sorts across from A.J. Green, based upon matchups. Each of the men listed in the previous paragraph have their strengths and weaknesses, so altering the game-plan to make the best use of these strengths will be up to Jay Gruden and his staff. When it comes to Green, of course, the future is bright:

Top WRs of 2015

"I was very tempted to put Green at the top spot on this list. Calvin Johnson might be slightly past his prime in 2015 and Green might be right in the middle of his best seasons -- both are incredibly gifted players. In fact, I think Johnson and Green are the two most gifted wideouts in all of football right now. Green is going to be great. Actually, I am selling him short -- he is going to be one of the very best."

A.J. Jenkins' spot
8:10AM ET
San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers famously -- or, infamously -- had just one reception from a WR in the NFC Championship game loss in 2011, and the club set about addressing the position group in player acquisitions this offseason. It could be argued, of course, that the WRs aren't the problem, that the QB is the problem in San Francisco, but the club obviously feels that Alex Smith is good enough to keep them amongst the ranks of the contenders. In any event, the additions included Randy Moss and Mario Manningham in free agency, with A.J. Jenkins selected with the Niners' first-round draft pick (No. 30 overall). Two out of those three have looked good in offseason practices thus far. Jenkins, on the other hand, did not, and he now finds himself no better than the No. 5 WR on the depth chart -- behind Michael Crabtree, Kyle Williams, Moss and Manningham.

"The Niners' first-round pick looked like one of the worst wide receivers on the field most of minicamp," Grant Cohn of the Press Democrat wrote. "He didn't play with the first- or second-team offense on Tuesday, and he didn't catch a pass in scrimmages on Wednesday. He had trouble staying on his feet all three days, which was odd considering it was a non-contact minicamp. Overall, undrafted receivers Nathan Palmer and Brian Tyms caught many more passes and made more impressive plays than Jenkins did. There's no rush for Jenkins to produce, though, because there seem to be at least four good wide receivers above him on the depth chart right now -- Crabtree, Moss, Manningham and Williams."

There's significant time left for Jenkins to improve his standing amongst the Niners' pass-catchers. But as of now, it seems that the Illinois product is not exactly poised for a standout rookie campaign.
