I think team X would have the best defense of anyone if they were using a 4-3 scheme. I know a 3-4 puts LT as the rush backer, but as talented as that DL is, they are all out of position and would get squashed in the running game by a top OL. X presents some match up problems for Y though IMO, and wins a very close match up. 3-3 up top shows how tight it is

My only problem with Y is his secondary, i'm a huge fan of X's corners. Most people probably don't even know who Billy Simms is, if he could have stayed healthy I don't think the Lions end up with Barry Sanders.

I think each defense has it's strengths and weaknesses, but Team Y's offense is better has a whole than X's.
