Not if they're trying to save some dough!

Amateurs entering pro tournaments is a common occurrence. It's a chance to maybe get a local hero in the mix or give a young kid a chance to compete at the pro level.

Even without the prize money, there are some positives. You get your name out there (Wie had endorsements before she ever did anything), you can earn exemptions, tournament entries, etc.
