we beat a 1-7 conference team by 8. when the scores occured doesn't much matter really. the fact they let up toward the end is an indication of poor play.

and even if you think this was not a good example you still have to explain away the other 5.

The AP dropped ND to 6th. ND vs. Stanford is not the only big game next week. And there are the conference championships the next week. I think the Committee will begin to question how good Notre Dame is after yesterday's shit show. I would give us about an 80% chance to make it if we win out.

AP has us 4th. Maybe you were looking at predictions or a particular voter

i'm aware ... i also think most teams don't have the reserves we've had to step in so you have to consider that also. those 3rd string players you mention would be starters on all but maybe 8 teams ... maybe less.

We played well against Temple. But great, but well. Moved the ball pretty efficiently. RZ turnovers were a problem. Clemson was a tale of 2 halves. We were dreadful in the first half and even coming out in the second half but dominated the rest of that game. Spotting 18 points on the road in dreadful conditions isn't easy to overcome but we damn near did.

BC and UVA were abysmal performances. Even Wake wasn't terrible but should have been better.

You're off the reservation on Ga. Tech. We owned them in that game. Yeah they pulled focus and allowed two garbage TDs but that just means the defense was undisciplined. Our offense could have scored at will at that point.

Totally agree with this. BC and UVA were the 2 bad performances this year.

To be honest, everyone on this board is very negative for the most part. Outside of maybe the Texas and Pittsburgh game, I think 95% of board been bitching after the other 8 wins this season.

Road win against a ranked opponent who said it was the biggest game in their school's history. I bitched at the missed opportunities because Temple was playing so motivated.

But objectively speaking they made the plays they needed to to win. You called it luck which is a bit of a cop-out.

Damn, what did I start? Am I the Negative Nancy Award Winner for the week? I'll accept it.

Here's my positive spin; we're inconsistent, but we only have one game left and a month later a second. I think we have the talent. That's why I think many are disappointed with the team's showing, because we see what they can do when they're firing on all cylinders. Clemson second half was a good example, Texas first half was another though we could maybe say the whole four quarters. We are good enough to play with the top 4. The only problem is, will one of those glaring inconsistencies show up and end up in a result that we know isn't what we're capable of when at our best?

That's it as far as I'm concerned. Though I really think Kelly should hire me to do play calling. I've watched Stanford enough this year, we have speed to give them fits in the secondary and we have the backs to earn some respect in the run game. Our defense is just as good or better than theirs. We merely need everyone to show up and not be head-in-the-clouds.

Am I redeemed?

i admit i do too. but that's only because they disappoint so much! i don't say that after just one or two bonehead plays. i do it after they've pissed me off multiple times with either poor play or stupid coaching decisions. i would assume you are probably about the same, aren't you?

Yes. I am not sure I gave said it in the first half of too many games. UMass and Navy probably. It's born of the fact that they've knocked their enemy down and they don't go for the death blow. It pisses me off every time.
