I see the Flyers being active in free agency but also on the trade market.

i see them dealing either Ghost or Provy to get a top 6 forward

I think dealing Ghost or Provorov would be a big mistake. Unless you can get guys that are under 25 and either on good contracts or will be RFA's at the end of their current deal. And those are rarely available.

Provorov, and even more so Ghost, don't just have value because they're young and have high ceilings. They're contract situations (and the other young guys) are why the Flyers are in such a good position moving forward.

Just to put it in perspective, here are some of the guys I would consider trading Ghost/Provorov for.

Rantanen
MacKinnon
Gadreau
Point
Marner
Pastrnak
Scheifele
Aho
Huberdeau
Landeskog
Monahan
Barkov

And that might be the end of the list. Their potential is too great and their cap hit is too valuable to consider trading them for potential stars or existing stars that are on expensive 8M+ deals.

That being said, I also think they'll be active in the trade market. But I think it will be this year's 1st round pick and prospects that are moved. I hope they don't move Frost or Farabee, but for the right return I'd be willing to move them too.

I dont see one player on this list that those other teams would trade for Ghost.

Then I'll keep Ghost and be happy about it. 4.5M for the next 4 seasons for a 15+ goal, 60+ point defenseman who's gotten Norris votes in 2 out of his 4 seasons? Sign me up.

Trading guys after one down season is how you fail as a franchise.

Im not saying to trade him but you totally ignore the other 2 out of 4 seasons where he is a -21 and a -16 with under 7 goals and under 40 points. That is the main reason no other teams would trade those players you listed because he is just has no where near their ability.

Only Karlsson (2x), Burns (4x), Hedman, Carlson, Letang, and Klingberg have exceeded Ghost's 65 point season from last year. (since Ghost came in to the league)

Karlsson - 6.5M (reports expect him to be around $11M when he signs a new one this summer)
Burns - 8M
Hedman - 7.8M
Carlson - 8M
Letang - 7.25M
Klingberg - 4.25M (also a steal)
Ghost - 4.5M

I say fuck trying to trade young players, we went through to much of waiting on these kids to start getting rid of them yet. We have money to spend, a 1st rd pick, and a few more contracts to shed, if Fletcher can't get it done with that kind of open checkbook then he needs to go to.

I'm not saying he is equal to their ability. I'm saying his contract + his ability means I'm not trading him for less than those players.

Are you taking Rantanen's 38pt, -25 season in to account in your evaluation?
Mackinnon's 38pts -7, 52pts -4, or 53pts -14 seasons?
Landeskog's 33pt -25 season?
Huberdeau's 28pt -5 season?
Monahan's 34pt -20 season?
Barkov's 24pt -3 or 36pt -4 seasons?

We can cherry pick good and bad seasons til the cows come home. You want players that have the talent to put up the good numbers. And you want them as cheap as you can get them. Ghost and Klingberg are absolute steals for a 60 point dman, and you should take both factors into account when thinking about trading them.

Karllson, 6yrs 10 mil a year, six years is about his prime.

Reports are saying he'll get something like Doughty's 8 years 11 mil a year.

Free agents and in-their-prime players are how you get cap fucked. Young players and paying on potential is how you get steals like Couturier and Ghost, while still being able to add more talent.

Not saying they shouldn't be looking to add in free agency, but they have the cap space to do so because they have guys like Ghost and Couturier on great contracts. Hell, Provorov's down year is probably a blessing in disguise because you can get him on a great contract too. If you're trading them, you better either get all-world players or you better get guys on good contracts in return. Because you're not just trading their on-ice ability, you're trading the cap flexibility they provide you.

I'm not sure if he's good for a solid 8 but if he pans out for 6 of them I'd be down for that. We have a lot of room for a splash so I say lets do it. We def sjould have enough to land one of these big free agents.

Id take Burns and his 8 mill and Hedman and his 7 mill per year over Ghost in a heartbeat. I would also take Karlsson for 10.5 over him too. If we could pay a third line LW 8 million (7 against the cap) we could pay him 10.5.

Im not taking in those bad seasons the other teams GMs are which is why they haven't offered any of those players for Ghost or they would be on our team.

Never said I wouldn't take those guys over Ghost? I'm just saying the Flyers get more on-ice value for Ghost than they pay for, especially if he settles in as even a 50+ point defensemen, and they should be wary in moving guys like that.

Ghost is probably a 2nd pair defenseman that's an elite PP qb. That's worth more than 4.5M/yr.

P.S. Hedman was drafted by the Lightning and the Sharks took advantage of Minnesota trading a young, high potential player before he was done developing. The Hedman/TB situation is an example of doing it correctly. The Burns/Minnesota situation is an example of what people who want to trade Ghost are trying to do.

Well the original post you were against was when you replied to Raptors post about getting a top 6 forward for Ghost and listed guys you would only take for Ghost and only listed his good years and didn't mention his bad years. It depends on the top 6 forward we would get back in a Ghost trade. Id take Draisaitl and his 8.5 mill any day and also Lindholm and 4.8 mill and im sure there are other top 6 forwards that would make sense in a Ghost trade.

Ghost's biggest issue is he needs to bulk up some. He has all the skills in the world but he's just to light in the ass, funny mobody points this out to him.
