Hope you can make it SF!

Looks like we're down to Leier vs Weise vs Lehtera for the final roster spots. Gotta waive 1, who are you waiving?
Can we save money by waiving Lehtera?

Pretty sure we would save about $900k on the cap but he still gets paid. We have so much cap space, it wouldn't really matter this year.

That's true. Im sure if we keep him its only because Haks likes his big body.

Chy's right. I think it might have inflated a little bit to just over $1M in savings, but definitely not the whole hit.

Yep. And I think they like Laughton at W than they do at C, so they need a 4C, assuming they don't play Weal on the 4th line which doesn't seem likely. Hak seems to want defense first guys on the 4th line.

Shame. Laughton-Weal-Raffl could be a pretty decent 3rd line, let alone 4th. I'd be shocked if they do that though, they didn't play Weal with Laughton or Raffl the whole preseason I don't think.

I read somewhere that Lehtera will be in the lineup against bigger centers. If Weal can get hot, he can probably keep Lehtera on the bench. Let's hope Weal gets and stays hot.

Flyers claim Clavin Pickard off waivers. There's your reason for waiving Leier and Weise yesterday. Barring another move they'll both have to be sent down since the Flyers have 3 goalies on the active roster now.

Interesting move. They're loaded up on goalies now if they all get healthy, 6 NHL or AHL caliber guys. Clearly Hextall a little worried about Stolarz holding up as the backup for now, and didn't want to rush Hart.

Bob McKenzie tweeted that it wouldn't be a surprise if the Leafs got one of these guys back off waivers later in the season. They lost two goalies in waivers today (McElhiney) Could be Pickard? When Neuvy is healthy, waive Stolarz and Pickard, Leafs claim Pickard back.

Pickard was a pretty highly regarded prospect just a few years ago. Picked #49 in 2010, ranked as the #1 NA goalie that season.

Pickard had a great year for the Marlies last year

What is this? Depth in the Goalie position? WOW

Heh. Only problem is they've got 5 guys that are either fringe NHL-ers or hurt too often to be relied on.

I do like the pickup. Free, decent, has potential. But what are they going to do if/when 6 goalies are healthy? I could see them using Elliot/Pickard at the NHL level, waiving Neuvy and just outright sending him home. Can't deal with his injuries any more. But then you still have Stolie/Lyon/Hart at the AHL level, which is too many.

I definitely think they expect to have one or two guys claimed. Lyon, Stolarz, and Pickard all need waivers now at some point.

Why dont we make a trade and free up a slot instead of just losing a goalie when we have to many?

There's just not that much demand for them. There's a reason they were on waivers in the first place. I would say there's a surplus of NHL/AHL swingmen goalies in the league right now. Flyers just a really good example of that.

Pickard actually played for Team Canada in that IIHF tourney last spring he wasn't too bad. I'm guessing that their worried about the health in net and not rushing Hart. Sitting Hart on the bench doesn't do any good either he needs to play...
