I don't think it was intentional. It looked like the Steckel-Crosby hit. An unfortunate series of events. I do not think it needs a review or anything. It may have been a trip, but that's all.

This was the one that I did not like:

This one amazed be when I saw it because I couldn't for the life of me figure out how there wasn't a single penalty indicated on the entire sequence. Not just the hit, but all of the trips.

The trips were absurd. The hit looked like a really awkward accident (probably not completely unrelated to how much tripping was happening).

There is no way the Downie and Kunitz hits were equal. I would have been fine with 2 for Kunitz and 0 for Downie, but this is a joke.

The Pens fan who wants to see us win at any cost is pleased, but I've gotta shake my head at the crazy NHL.

Heatley and Marchmand get 2 games for deliberate elbows to head.
Cooke, for a (worse but) similar elbow gets 10 games plus 4 to 7 playoff games.
Kunitz, for probably the worst of the three, gets 1 game.

I mean, I understand that previous history plays a role, and that the league is reluctant to give suspensions in the playoffs, but that kind of inconsistency is incredible.

I thought they both should have gotten majors in the game, and then Downie nothing, Kunitz for 2 or 3 games.

Playoffs I guess.

Yeah, your being fair.

How does Ryan get 2 games, Stoll 1 game, and Kunitz 0? Im okay with Raffi getting 0 because it was not a hit to the head and he was following through on his check. Ryans "stomp" was the weakest of them all and still got 2 games. I just dont get it.

That being said, Im pretty sure anybody- including every poster on this board- could switch jobs with Colin Campbell and they would receive a ton of criticism as well.

The more I think about this, the more it fucking irritates me. I don't want to watch players get taken out left and right. They only suspend people when there's a fucking injury. Jesus Christ, if they were going to actually continue making a statement after Cooke, they could have at least given Kunitz the series. They actually have kinda the perfect time to do it. I know they don't want to affect a series too much, but it's a really long shot that the Pens are going to win the Cup. Make another statement with Kunitz. He's a decent player without a track record, so they're not taking one of their superstars out, but the message is still there.

I care more about the long term talent of the league than I do the Penguins playoff hopes this year. Glad Gagne is okay. What is going on with Savard is tragic; they don't need that shit in the game.

Question.....considering Gagne's history with head injuries in the past...should that have been an issue in deciding Kunitz's punishment? Do you think Kunitz even realized who he was elbowing? If it was a deliberate head shot to eliminate a key opponent...then wow...that's bad....I hope it wasn't....

I'm with you on this. There's no room for cheap shots in the game, and the league has to take that stance. Heatley and Marchand should have each been suspended longer than they were, and Kunitz should have gotten the heftiest suspension of them all. Plays like that are going to ruin hockey.

No one agreed with me in the playoff series thread, but I thought Kunitz knew exactly who he was hitting and that he knew about the history. That's why I wanted upwards of 10 games (yes, even in the playoffs) on his suspension.

I find it hard to believe he didn't know who it was. Just sayin'. I don't think Kunitz is a Matt Cooke type player, but he plays on the edge, and this was just retarded. They could have made more of this. And they should have.

The word Gagne was right in front of him when he did it. Unless Kunitz can't read, he knew who it was, in my opinion.

I'm sure he knew who it was since he was looking at the back of his jersey.

Whether he had time to realize in his mind that Gagne has the concussion history I would say is less of a guarantee.

I don't know that we should be factoring in who the victim is or their history in these incidents. It's an unfortunate side effect, but unless the offender crosses the entire rink to throw a leaping elbow into the temple of a guy who just came back from a high profile concussion, it shouldn't matter. The game moves too fast for players to be thinking about these kinds of things.

I do think that an offender's past history should be less of a factor in incidents where the offense isn't an accident. If a guy has a squeeky clean past but commits a blatant intentional head shot, they should feel free to throw the book at him.

I caught a brief excerpt of Colie on Bob McCown's show yesterday discussing suspensions. He really sounds fed up with the whole disciplinary and suspension gig. Just more reason to give it up and bring in a committee of people.

Like SportsHoopla???

This was meant as a joke, ftr, not a personal knock on anyone. I think that we discuss this shit well more than the league office does. Hence the joke.

So, once again, for the record....THIS IS A JOKE!!!

:love::love::love::love:

(some people apparently took it otherwise, and to those people I sincerely apologize)

I'm still predictably dull and an idiot though right? I would hate to find out that was also just a joke. :kev:
